Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team fell to the College of Charleston 3-0 Thursday night at Snyder Field. This was the first matchup between the teams since 2012.
Charleston gained an early edge on the Terriers behind a quick goal in the seventh minute of the match to take a 1-0 lead. The Cougars would fire off nine more shots in the first half, but the Terrier defense stood strong, keeping the margin at one. Wofford registered five shots in the first 45 minutes, including a near-goal off the leg of
Ellie Gower in the 30
th minute.
The Cougars kept the pressure on in the second half, scoring back-to-back goals in the 62
nd and 63
rd minutes, extending their lead to 3-0. Wofford had a chance to get on the board in the 84
th minute off a penalty kick from
Ellie Gower, but the shot was just above the top crossbar. The Terriers would go on to lose the match 3-0.
Charleston tallied 23 shots, six on goal, while Wofford finished the night with six shots, one on goal. The Cougars led the match with eight corner kicks compared to the Terriers' one.
Wofford will be back at Snyder Field for senior day on Sunday, September 1, for a matchup against Elon University at 6:00 pm. The Terriers will honor eight seniors.
