SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford volleyball team dropped its first home match of the conference slate 3-0 to the UNCG Spartans on Thursday night inside of Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. Wofford falls to 9-9, 5-2, while UNCG improves to 12-6, 5-2.

Wofford finished the match with 42 kills compared to 44 by the Spartans. Despite the loss, the Terriers finished with more assists. Wofford had 42 while UNCG had 41. Wofford closed the night with a .209 hitting percentage while UNCG hit .279. The Spartans totaled eight service aces to Wofford's two.

Natalie Arnold and
Chloe Smith led the offensive charge, recording 11 kills each.
Bradley Brown and
Annemarie Rakoski finished with eight and seven, respectively.
Taylor Pecht dished out 26 assists along with 15 from
Maddy Frazier. On defense,
Laney Klika paced the team with 13 digs.
Chloe Smith added 10 to round out her double-double.

The Terriers jumped out to a nice lead early in the first set, going up 6-2 after an ace from
Laney Klika. The Terriers added on to the lead after scoring four-straight points to give Wofford a 15-9 lead. The team held a 20-14 lead late into the first stanza, but UNCG used a 7-1 run to even the set at 22-all. Despite Wofford holding match point at 24-22, the Spartans claimed a lengthy set one 29-27.

UNCG found the first few points of the second stanza and eventually took a 14-5 lead. Wofford would cut it to 16-12, but the Spartans kept Wofford at bay. UNCG would take set two 25-17.

After trading points to start set three, UNCG found a 6-3 lead due to a pair of aces. Wofford fought back, however, tying the score on several occasions. The Spartans would not let go of the lead as the team never trailed in the final set. UNCG would take set three 26-24 and give Wofford its first home conference loss of the season, 3-0.

The Terriers will be back in action tomorrow as the team takes on ETSU at 6:00 PM. The match can be streamed on ESPN+.
