JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Wofford women's soccer team (3-7-4, 0-3-1) dropped a road match against East Tennessee State (8-2-3, 3-0-1) on Thursday night at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
The Terriers opened the game having to play strong defense against the Buccaneers' physical offense. ETSU forced Wofford's back line to hold tight to take away any chances from the Bucs. In the 4
th minute on an ETSU corner kick, the Bucs' Reagan Fitzgerald found in opening through the Terriers' defense to head the ball deep in the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Wofford offense didn't give up, forcing the ball forward to see several opportunities to equalize the match.
Annie Andrews had an opportunity to equalize in the 25
th minute but was blocked by ETSU, forcing a corner kick for the Terriers.
Ellie Gower answered from the corner kick with another chance to equalize for Wofford, but her shot was high.
Moments later, ETSU found an opening in the Terriers' defense in the 26
th minute to score their second goal of the night, holding a 2-0 advantage. The Bucs had several opportunities to bring their lead 3-0 but
Elizabeth Navola and the Terriers' back line held firm to their chances.
The half ended with Wofford having three shots compared to the Bucs' seven.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kendall Joggerst started in goal for the Terriers to open the second half. The Terriers had several early opportunities coming back from the halftime break, but each attempt fell short.
Despite this, Wofford held firm in their offense, forcing five corner kicks in the first 20 minutes of the half, but each opportunity couldn't fall through as the Bucs' defense held strong.
In the 66
th minute, ETSU found an opportunity in the Terriers' scattered defense to strike the ball low into the net to solidify a 3-0 lead. The Terriers tried to come back from the 3-nil deficit, but the Bucs' tough defense and dominant offense cracked down on any opportunities they had.
The match ended with the Terriers having three shots, one on goal, compared to the Bucs' 14, eight on goal. Wofford had eight corner kicks, while ETSU had nine. Navola ended the night with two saves and Joggerst with three. Meanwhile, ETSU's Addison Yelton ended with just one.

This was Joggerst's second game of the season. She recorded three saves and played 45 minutes, a season high.
