Volleyball Sweeps Chattanooga

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford volleyball team swept the Chattanooga Mocs 3-0 on Halloween night inside of Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The Terriers improve to 12-10, 8-3, while Chattanooga falls to 13-10, 7-4.

The Terriers dominated the match, posting 45 kills while hitting .330. Chattanooga had 27 kills and was held to a .049 hitting percentage. Three Terriers finished with double-digit kills, as Chloe Smith topped the team with 13 kills. Annemarie Rakoski followed behind with 11 kills of her own all while hitting .667. Ella Coleman closed the night with a career-high 10 kills. Taylor Pecht and Maddy Frazier orchestrated the attack, with Pecht tallying 19 assists and Frazier dishing out 12.

"Our team focuses a lot on having a fast offense," said Annemarie Rakoski on the offensive attack. "It helps with keeping the offense spread out. A big thank you to our setters for setting us up with some great balls."

Wofford totaled four service aces to one by the Mocs. Ella Coleman led the team with two, while Chloe Smith and Maddy Frazier chipped in one each. As for the defense, the Terriers rejected eight attacks to Chattanooga's six. Bradley Brown posted a team-best six swats, and Emily Normand had three. Both Annemarie Rakoski and Natalie Arnold assisted on two apiece. Laney Klika recorded a match-high 12 digs.

The Terriers jumped out to an early 5-1 lead behind a couple of kills from Ella Coleman and Annemarie Rakoski. Wofford did not let up after the early advantage, extending its lead 12-4. Going up by as many as nine points, the Terriers would take set one 25-20.

It was back-and-forth between the teams during the early goings of set two, but Wofford found a bit of breathing room after scoring three-straight points. Holding a 9-5 lead, the Terriers held off the Chattanooga comeback until the team was able to roll out another run. With an 18-12 lead, Wofford would go on to win set two 25-17.

The final stanza was Wofford all the way, as the team went up 6-1 with help from a pair of kills from Annemarie Rakoski. A 6-1 run later on in the set allowed the Terriers to jump out to an 18-8 lead. That was just the beginning of what would be a 13-3 run. That was the boost Wofford needed, taking set three and earning the 3-0 sweep against Chattanooga on Halloween night.

The Terriers will be back in action tomorrow night to celebrate their two seniors - Annemarie Rakoski and Caroline Przystup. Wofford will take on the Samford Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. in what will be the home finale.
