SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford volleyball team defeated the Samford Bulldogs 3-0 on senior night inside of Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The Terriers improve to 13-10, 9-3, while Samford falls to 9-14, 4-8. Wofford celebrated seniors
Annemarie Rakoski and
Caroline Przystup prior to first serve.
Â
"It was awesome to get the sweep tonight," said senior defensive specialist
Caroline Przystup. "We prepared a lot in practice for Samford, and we were really able to defend them well."
Â
It was a historic night for
Laney Klika, as the reigning SoCon Libero of the Year posted 29 digs through three sets. That is the second most in program history in a three-setter, only trailing Taylor Gill who recorded 30 in 2017.
Chloe Smith followed behind with 11 digs.
Annemarie Rakoski and
Natalie Arnold rejected five attacks each, while
Bradley Brown sent back two.
Â
"With it being senior night, we wanted to have a big presence at the net," said senior middle blocker
Annemarie Rakoski. "Having my team back me up helped us out a lot. This was our year to show out on senior night, and we were able to do that."
Â
Offensively,
Chloe Smith led the way with 14 kills to give her a double-double.
Bradley Brown was right behind her, finishing off 10 attacks on a .714 hitting percentage.
Annemarie Rakoski closed the night with seven. As always,
Taylor Pecht and
Maddy Frazier set up the offense, with Pecht dishing out 16 assists and Frazier handing out 14. Both Frazier and
Bradley Brown served up two aces.
Chloe Smith,
Laney Klika and
Taylor Pecht tallied one apiece.
Â
Wofford finished the evening with 40 kills on a .280 hitting percentage. The team held Samford to 28 kills at a .062 clip. The Terriers had five aces compared to two from the Bulldogs. Wofford won the battle at the net, recording seven blocks to Samford's six.
Â
The Terriers jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after a kill from
Ella Coleman. A pair of kills from
Chloe Smith gave Wofford a bit of breathing room, as the team would take a 12-6 advantage almost halfway through set one. Samford made a last-ditch push towards the end of the set, but the Terriers stayed the course and won the first stanza 25-20.
Â
It was three-straight points from Wofford in the early goings of set two that paced the way for the remainder of the set. From there Wofford would dominate, going on an 11-1 run to take complete control of the second frame. After leading 20-7, the Terriers would hold on to take set two 25-13.
Â
Samford had its way in the first few rallies of set three, but Wofford found its rhythm after a 7-1 run. The Samford skid was highlighted by both
Natalie Arnold and
Annemarie Rakoski's presence at the net. The duo sent back three attacks in set three alone. Another 8-1 run was all Wofford needed to take set three, claiming the final stanza 25-13 and defeating Samford 3-0.
Â
Wofford closes out home action for 2025 with the sweep over Samford. The Terriers will be at Furman on Thursday, November 6, at 6:00 p.m. before travelling to Mercer on Saturday, November 8.
