Women’s Basketball Falls at App State

BOONE, N.C. – The Wofford women's basketball team fell 77-50 to the App State Mountaineers on Sunday afternoon at the Holmes Convocation Center. The Terriers fall to 1-3 while App State improves to 3-1.
 
The Terriers finished the afternoon shooting 17-of-58 (29.3%) while knocking in four of their 24 attempts from three. App State shot 31-of-58 (53.4%) and made 10 triples. Wofford shot 12-of-13 from the charity stripe. Leading the scoring efforts was Queen Ikhiuwu with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Molly Masingale followed behind with 10.
 
Wofford lost the battle on the glass for the first time all season, as the team pulled down 28 boards compared to 39 by the Mountaineers. App State totaled 36 points in the paint to Wofford's 20. Ikhiuwu paced the team with six rebounds. Toni Warren and Maddie Heiss had four each.
 
The Terriers got on the board first to start the game by way of a Gabby Mundy pull-up jump shot, but App State responded with a quick three on the very next possession. The teams traded baskets over the next few minutes as the game would be all knotted up at 8-8. App State scored 16 unanswered points after that, taking a 24-8 lead heading into the second quarter. Wofford went the final 5:57 of the stanza without a score.
 
App State scored the first five points of the second quarter, giving the Mountaineers 21-straight points without a Wofford basket. The Terriers got going after that, however, going on their own 20-4 run over the next 6:11 of game time. Queen Ikhiuwu scored five points in a row during the App State skid. The Terriers would enter the half trailing 35-28. Ikhiuwu scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the first half.
 
The Mountaineers started the second half off with a 12-0 run to take full control of the game. The Wofford skid pushed the deficit to 19 points with 6:34 left in the third. Wofford struggled to keep up its second quarter shooting efforts, falling behind by 23 points to close the frame. The Terriers could not mount a comeback in the fourth quarter, losing the game 77-50.
 
The Terriers will be back on the road on Saturday, November 22, at Charlotte. The game is slated for a 2:00 p.m. tip and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
