Hare’s Walk-Off Homer Seals 2-1 Win for Baseball

Terriers walk Army off for second-straight day

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Tied at one in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday afternoon, Tyler Hare delivered a walk-off blast for the Wofford baseball team to secure a 2-1 victory over Army West Point at Russell C. King Field. The Terriers improve to 5-1 as the Black Knights fall to 1-4.

In another pitchers' duel, each team only used two pitchers. Cullen Condon started for Wofford and turned in a gem, tossing 6.0 innings with just one run allowed on five hits and two walks. The freshman recorded 10 strikeouts, the first Terrier to tally double-digits since April 19, 2024. Kenny Michaels (1-0) polished off the final 3.0 innings with no runs allowed. He surrendered only a single hit and one walk, striking out three to earn the win.

Army's starter pitched 4.1 innings before reliever Robbie Penswick (0-1) threw the final 4.1 frames, allowing only one run and one hit, but they both came via the walk-off home run to hand him the loss.

Wofford's seven hits were dispersed between six Terriers, as Harrison Campi led the group with two. He added a stolen base. Despite going hitless, Tyler Bak reached twice with a pair of walks, adding an RBI. Tyler Hare owned the other Terrier RBI, depositing a walk-off home run to seal the win.

After a scoreless first inning, Army broke through with an RBI double in the top of the second for an early 1-0 edge.

Wofford struck back in the bottom of the fourth. Harrison Campi led the inning off with a single, and James Layman added an infield single to follow. A fielder's choice kept two on, and Lucas Grantham loaded the bases with another infield base knock. Tyler Bak's patient approach tied the game when he drew a bases-loaded walk, pulling Wofford level 1-1.

Pitching kept things clean from there, as each of the next four frames went scoreless. Kenny Michaels struck out two of the three Black Knights he faced in the top of the ninth to set his offense up for a walk-off. After a groundout, Hare sauntered to the plate and delivered, clubbing a no-doubt walk-off solo shot to right center, ending the contest with a 2-1 Wofford victory.

After clinching the series today, the Terriers will look for the sweep tomorrow in game three. The series finale is set for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch at Russell C. King Field and will be streamed on ESPN+.
