Baseball Secures Series Over Le Moyne with 12-8 Win

Wofford wins seventh game in a row

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford baseball team downed Le Moyne 12-8 Saturday evening at Russell C. King Field to win the weekend series over the Dolphins. Wofford improves to 10-1 with the victory as Le Moyne falls to 0-9.

Alec Bouchard (1-0) picked up the win in relief as the first arm out of the bullpen. He tossed 4.2 innings of scoreless ball with just three hits and a walk allowed. He struck out three. Cullen Condon started before passing the ball off to Bouchard. Wes Estes tossed 0.2 innings with two runs (none earned) allowed before Carter Rasmussen (1) finished off the final 3.1 innings to claim a save. He allowed three runs and struck out four.

"I knew that if I had my two pitches on the plate and just was consistent with what [Coach Pat Brown] was calling, things would go well," said Bouchard.

Dolphin starter Max Parker (0-3) was saddled with the loss after giving up nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits and a walk in 3.1 innings.

The Terriers tallied 16 hits with six players recording two or more knocks. Adam Haber led the way with three hits. Ryan Wynn, Harrison Campi, Tyler Hare, Zach Porter, and James Layman all had two hits. Porter's base knocks were the first of his career, and he added three RBI. Campi and Hare each notched two RBI with Campi lifting a solo homer. Layman added an RBI, as did Tanner Hardin and Hunter Herndon with two. Herndon, Haber, and Hare each hit a double in the game.

"It's great to see," said Haber of the offensive success. "We're getting a ton of traffic on the bases, and everybody's just coming through. It's huge."

Le Moyne opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first. Wofford responded with three of its own in the bottom of the second to pull level. With the bases loaded for freshman Zach Porter, he ripped a single down the right field line to push across a pair. Jame Layman then singled home another run to level the score at 3-3.

The Terriers took the lead in the bottom of the third with three more runs. With two runners on, Tyler Hare found the gap in right center for a double to bring in both runners. Porter struck again immediately after, hitting a single to plate Hare for a 6-3 advantage.

In the fourth, Harrison Campi lifted a solo shot 401 feet for his second round-tripper of the campaign. Later in the frame, Hunter Herndon delivered with two runners on base, roping a double down the left field line to bring both Terriers home for a 9-3 lead.

After a scoreless fifth, the Dolphins responded with two runs in the top of the sixth. An RBI single was followed by a wild pitch with the bases loaded, bringing Le Moyne within 9-5.

Wofford responded in the bottom of the frame with two more runs. Tanner Hardin's infield single with the bases loaded pushed across a run, and an errant throw by the shortstop allowed another runner to come home, making the margin 11-5.

Le Moyne added an RBI single in the top of the seventh, but Wofford responded yet again with its own RBI single in the bottom of the inning by Campi. The game went to the ninth with Wofford ahead 12-6.

The Dolphins hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth, but it was all they could get late. Carter Rasmussen closed out the ballgame from there to secure a 12-8 triumph for Wofford.

After winning the series today, the Terriers will look for the sweep tomorrow afternoon with game three set for 1:00 p.m. at Russell C. King Field. The contest will be streamed on ESPN+.
