CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Wofford College women's lacrosse team was defeated 18-4 by Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium on Friday afternoon. The Bearcats scored the first nine goals in the game to secure the win.
Wofford was led by
Bria Foley with one goal and a pair of assists, along with three draw controls.
Carlie Cutinella,
Laura Montagna, and
Kaitlyn Bellanca also scored goals.
Brooke Meltcher had a team-high four ground balls. The team caused ten turnovers, with
Carlie Cutinella and
Bria Foley each having a pair.
Ella Smithers had ten saves in goal, while
Hannah Taylor had one.
The Bearcats scored just 29 seconds into the game and had a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Cincinnati added to the advantage with the first three goals of the second quarter. Wofford got on the board at the 9:34 mark with a goal by
Laura Montagna to make it a 9-1 game.
Carlie Cutinella added a goal with 3:29 remaining in the half, but the Terriers trailed 12-2 at the break.
In the third quarter, the Bearcats scored five goals for a 17-2 lead. They added one goal in the fourth quarter before
Bria Foley found the back of the net at the 4:50 mark and
Kaitlyn Bellanca scored her first career goal with 2:26 remaining for the 18-4 final margin.
Cincinnati is 6-4 overall in their first season in the Big 12. They were led by Camryn Callaghan with five goals and one assist for six points, while a total of nine Bearcats scored.
Wofford (1-6) will play the next three games on the road, with a visit to Xavier on Sunday at noon. The next home game will be on Wednesday, April 2, against Furman.
