Spartanburg, S.C.- Wofford softball (16-9) dropped the final game of a three-game series against South Dakota (17-11). The Coyote bats got hot early and did not relent to put the final score at 8-2.
Margaret Axelson got the start for the Terriers in game three but gave up four hits on two runs. She passed the circle off to Abby Greenwood who in 3.1 innings of work gave up five runs on six hits. Natalya Salo closed out the final 1.2 innings only giving up one run on three hits.
South Dakota scored a quick two runs in the first inning to put Terriers down 2-0 early. Wofford responded in the bottom of the second with an Abbi Campbell RBI single driving in Hope Ingle. However, the Terrier bats were silenced by South Dakota as they only collected four hits for the remainder of the game. In the fifth inning, South Dakota scored another run to go up 3-1. Then in the sixth the South Dakota bats hung five runs on the Terriers. Wofford would respond with a Hannah Maddox single followed by an RBI triple by Kalli Petty which would give Wofford life late, but it was all for not as South Dakota ended the game with a final score of 8-2.
Wofford will return to action Wednesday, March 19, as they go on the road to face Presbyterian College in a midweek. First pitch is slated for 6:00 pm.
