Spartanburg, S.C.- Wofford softball (16-10) fell in the bottom of the seventh inning against Presbyterian College (17-13) at the PC Softball Complex on Wednesday, March 19. The Terrier bats were unable to capitalize on chances as they stranded 11 baserunners in the game.  

Pitcher Margaret Axelson was tabbed with the start against the Blue Hose and she put together a quality game going 6.2 innings with nine hits allowed, one walk and four strikeouts. The two runs given up by the Terrier right-hander were enough for the Blue Hose to get the win, dropping Axelson's record to 8-4.  

Wofford struck first with a Havalynn Abernathy RBI single in the first inning to give the Terriers the 1-0 lead. The game turned into a pitcher's duel as neither team could score a run over the next three innings. In the fifth frame, the Blue Hose strung together two hits to tie the ball game 1-1. The Terrier attack struggled throughout most of the game but had an opportunity in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead with runners on second and third with two outs. Presbyterian found a way to get out of the jam with quality pitching forcing an infield fly to get out of the inning.  In the bottom of the seventh, Axelson ran out of gas as two hits in the final frame scored the walk off run with two outs for the Blue Hose ended the game at 2-1. 

The Terriers return home to Hope Field on Saturday, March 22, as they begin Southern Conference play against rival Furman in a three-game series. The first pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
