Andrew Novak Secures First PGA Tour Win

Wofford men’s golf alumnus claims victory at Zurich Classic of New Orleans

AVONDALE, La. – A week after finishing runner-up in a playoff, Wofford men's golf alumnus Andrew Novak '17 finally broke through for his first win on the PGA Tour. Novak, paired with Ben Griffin, earned the victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans as the duo finished 28-under par over the four-round event at the TPC Louisiana, a par-72, 7,425-yard course.

The pairing posted rounds of 62-66-61 over the first three days of the tournament to enter Sunday in the lead. The final round was played with alternate shots, and the tandem posted a 71 in round four to hold firm and stave off a late push by the Højgaard twins, Nicolai and Rasmus. The brothers shot a 68 in the final round to move up two spots, but they fell one stroke short of Novak and Griffin. The final round also presented the challenge of a lightning delay that suspended play midway through.

The win is the first of Griffin's PGA Tour career as well. Griffin sank a 35-foot birdie putt on hole 17 that effectively sealed the win for the pairing.

"It's just a dream," said Andrew Novak after the match in an interview with CBS Sports's Amanda Balionis. "The reality is that I'm really glad Ben (Griffin) got me through today. The wheels were coming off, and I was having some issues, especially after the weather delay, but he played awesome. We kept together, and you know that putt by Ben on 17 was unbelievable, and I'm glad we got that."

Winning the Zurich Classic means each member of the winning team receives $1,329,400 in prize money. Additionally, each winner gets 400 FedExCup points and a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour. They also gain entry into the PGA Championship and remaining Signature Events.

With his 400 points for the victory, Novak is projected to rise nine places in the FedExCup standings to sixth. Novak is having the best season of his career, fresh off a runner-up result just seven days ago in the RBC Heritage, an event that he only lost by one stroke in a playoff to winner Justin Thomas. He finished third in his prior outing at the Valero Texas Open. This is his fourth top-three result of the 2025 season, and the win comes in Novak's 100th career PGA Tour outing.

Novak, a 2017 graduate of Wofford College, won four events during his collegiate career with the Terriers. He twice participated in NCAA Regionals, and he was named the 2017 Southern Conference Men's Golfer of the Year. Novak's name is littered over the men's golf record book at Wofford, and he remains the program record holder for wins (four), top fives (15), top 10s (23), and rounds in the 60s (27). He joined the Wofford Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022.
