Wofford Softball Drops Series Finale Against ETSU

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Wofford softball team (30-19, 11-7 SoCon) dropped the final game of the weekend series against ETSU (16-33, 5-13 SoCon) on Sunday, April 27. Wofford tallied five hits and left five runners on base in the 2-0 loss.

Freshman Natalya Salo got the start for the Terriers and pitched the complete game with two runs given up on three hits. Salo struck out four and walked three batters in the tough 2-0 loss to move her record to 6-6 on the season.

The Terrier bats were flummoxed all afternoon as the Buccaneer defense and pitching kept the Wofford offense in check.  Wofford's most dangerous opportunity came in the bottom of the fifth as the Terriers had runners on first and third with two outs. However, ETSU got out of the jam with a fly ball to end the inning and keep the game tied at zero.

In the seventh inning, the ETSU bats woke up and pushed across two runs in the top of the frame as Salo reached over 100 pitches thrown. The Terriers could not recapture the magic of Saturday afternoon in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game 2-0.

Wofford currently holds the fourth seed in the Southern Conference and will match-up against Samford next weekend with tournament seeding implications. Samford currently ranks third in the conference and with a Wofford series win, the Terriers would avoid the play-in game for the Southern Conference tournament which will be hosted at Hope Field.

The three-game series against Samford starts Friday, May 2, with a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m. CT.
