ROCK HILL, S.C. – Runs were at a premium Wednesday night at Founders Field as the Wofford baseball team found itself locked in a tight battle with Winthrop. The Eagles used a late three-run frame in the seventh to secure a 5-3 win. The Terriers drop to 25-21 as Winthrop improves to 27-21.

Sheldon Egger started for Wofford and hurled 4.0 innings with just a run allowed on three hits and two walks.
Dylan Rhadans (0-2) took the loss as the first reliever out for Wofford, tossing 2.1 innings with three runs given up on three hits and a walk. He struck out one.
Grant Comstock pitched the final 1.2 innings with just an unearned run surrendered on three hits. He struck out two.

Four Eagles pitched with Shane Keup (3-2) getting the win in relief after 2.0 frames of work and one run allowed. Ben Rehkow (3) notched a save by finishing off the final 1.1 innings, allowing an unearned run.

Tanner Hardin recorded three of Wofford's five hits, tying his career high. Adding in a walk, he reached base safely four times and drove home two runs.
David Wiley clubbed a solo homer as his only hit, the fourth long ball on his ledger this season.
James Layman notched Wofford's other hit. Three Terriers recorded a stolen base in the contest: Wiley, Hardin, and
Ben Timblin.

Winthrop struck first in the bottom of the second. With two runners on and two out, a double sent down the left field line pushed across one run. The Terriers limited the damage, however, with a well-executed relay throw from
Niko Brini to
Ryan Wynn to
Raul Feliz, who put the tag on at home to keep the initial margin 1-0.

Wofford cracked onto the scoreboard in the top of the fifth.
Andrew Mannelly worked a lead-off walk. He was sacrificed over to second, from where he scored on
Tanner Hardin's single through the left side. The score was evened at 1-1.

The game remained a pitchers' duel with neither offense able to muster much. This was until the bottom of the seventh when the Eagles pulled back in front with three runs. A two-run double was followed by an RBI single for a 4-1 Winthrop lead.

The Terriers got a run back in the top of the eighth.
David Wiley turned on the first pitch of the frame and sent it off the left field foul pole for a solo shot that pulled Wofford within 4-2.

Winthrop secured an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when a run scored off a fielding error. The Eagles led 5-2.

In the top of the ninth, the Terriers provided one last push at a comeback.
Adam Haber drew a pinch-hit walk to lead the inning off, and he scored on Hardin's RBI single to bring Wofford within two. He stole second, but two outs thereafter closed the contest at 5-3 in favor of Winthrop.

Wofford returns home this weekend to host Mercer in Southern Conference action. The first contest of the three-game series is set for Friday, May 2, with a first pitch of 5:30 p.m. at Russell C. King Field.
