SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College football team wrapped up fall camp on Saturday morning with a brief mock game at Gibbs Stadium. The walk-through lasted about an hour.
The team went through a typical pregame routine, which included position group work and seven-on-seven. The offense and defense then ran plays on air, working on a variety of situations. Special teams operated most units, including field goal and kick-off.
"We accomplished what we wanted to in camp," said head coach
Shawn Watson. "The players have done a great job preparing, and they followed the plan. We have been talking about the plan since we got together in January, and I think they have done a tremendous job. I appreciate their attention to detail and their effort, and the same thing for the staff. I love where the team's at right now.
"The quarterback room is really competitive," continued Watson. "You don't get a day off and you have to come every day ready to work. Those guys did a really good job of competing. Jayden (Whitaker) won the job because he won the job and those other guys pushed him. I'm really pleased with the competition, and we can win with the other guys as well. At linebacker where we have four new starters, I think Mitch (Doolittle) has done a tremendous job. We not only have developed good starters, but the guys behind them can all play."
After an off day on Sunday, the Terriers will begin game preparation for the season opener at South Carolina State.
