From the Athletics Director’s Desk -August 2025

It has been a busy summer on campus, with our teams and coaches hosting nearly 10,000 participants in camps. Even though we are a few weeks from the start of the academic year, our fall sport student-athletes are already back preparing for the season. Women's soccer will be the first to compete, as they host USC Upstate on August 14 at Snyder Field. We will also be hosting six regular season football home games for the first time since the 2015 season, giving our fans a lot of opportunities to see the Terriers at Gibbs Stadium. Be sure to be at the home opener on Sept. 6 against Richmond for postgame fireworks!

 SOCON SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
For the 10th time, Wofford was honored with the 2024-25 D.S. McAlister Award which is presented to the Southern Conference school which is judged to have exhibited the highest degree of sportsmanship in the conduct of its athletic program. This award is a reflection of all of our student-athletes, coaches and staff and how well they represent Wofford. In addition, Maggie Jackson from the women's golf team was one of ten recipients of a Southern Conference postgraduate scholarship. She received the Richard Johnson Scholarship, named after the former Wofford director of athletics, and will pursue a masters degree in architecture.

FAN FEST
Wofford Fan Fest returns on Friday, August 15, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. as the event will mark the debut of "Terrier Town" on Cumming Street in front of Gibbs Stadium. There will be activities for the whole family and a chance to interact with our fall sports student-athletes, including football, volleyball, and men's and women's soccer. The event will feature food trucks, inflatables, a DJ, and family-friendly games. During the home football season, "Terrier Town" will be open prior to kick-off and offer the same features. Parking will be available in the Mungo Student Life Parking Lot (Lot A) or across from Gibbs Stadium (Lots E and F). Free to register - https://advance.wofford.edu/register/?id=49ec3b9e-42a8-4e28-ba10-b1383bd15408

NCAA HOUSE SETTLEMENT
A new era of college athletics began on July 1, as colleges and universities can now directly compensate student-athletes under the terms of the House settlement. Non-Power 4 conference schools had to decide whether to opt in or out of the settlement parameters. While we have opted in, we are not revenue sharing with student-athletes. By opting in, especially being able to designate student-athletes above the roster limits only this season, we are providing ourselves with flexibility in the constantly changing landscape.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS
This year Wofford set a record with 314 student-athletes named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll. We also had 83 student-athletes named to the Academic All-Conference team, which was also a record. Among SoCon schools, Wofford was second in both categories. There were 29 Terriers with a perfect 4.0 GPA this academic year, also a record.

FOOTBALL SEASON BEGINS
Season ticket sales and renewals for the 2025 Wofford football season are still available. The Terriers will host six games at Gibbs Stadium this fall and ticket prices remain one of the best values in the Southern Conference. Fans can also look forward to visiting "Terrier Town" fan fest right outside Gibbs Stadium for pre-game fun, including food trucks and family-friendly activities. Click here (https://woffordterriers.com/tickets) for more information and tickets.

WOFFORD SUMMER CITY TOUR
The 2025 Wofford Summer City Tour concludes with a stop in Spartanburg on Friday, August 22. The event is organized by the Alumni Association and Career Center. Register here – https://advance.wofford.edu/register/SpartanburgSCT
This is also "Wofford Night" at Fifth Third Park, so look for a lot of Terriers at the game!

BASKETBALL
The 2025-26 basketball schedules are almost completed. The men are expected to have 14 home games as they defend their Southern Conference Championship, while the women will have 13 home contests. One big change this season will be the Wofford and visiting team benches will be switched. This will put our team close to the locker rooms, avoid the teams from having to cross paths at halftime and the end of the game, and force the visiting team to shoot facing the Boneyard student second in the second half. Shelby Taylor will be contacting season ticket holders with seats behind the benches about this change.

TERRIER CLUB GIFTS
For current Terrier Club donors, parking passes will begin to arrive in the mail next week. Contact the Terrier Club office for any renewal or donation questions as we get closer to the start of the season.

SUMMER IMPROVEMENTS
Things are always busy during the summer on campus for our grounds and facilities staff. They recently completed the installation of a new irrigation system on the three practice fields used by football and the men's and women's soccer teams. This included the construction of a new building to house the irrigation pumps, along with much-needed space for storage. The baseball field will have the sod on the infield and foul territory replaced, while the Reeves Tennis Center courts are being resurfaced. Another project is the sanding, repair and repainting of the main court at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium, with new championship banners being hung as well!

WEIGHT ROOM UPGRADES
Later this month and in September, the equipment in the Joe E. Taylor Center weight room will be replaced. In addition, a new weight room will be installed in Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The new weight room will be for men's and women's basketball, lacrosse, and volleyball, which will free up time in the Taylor Center weight room for our other sports. Both facilities will be outfitted with all-new weight equipment and flooring.
