Men’s Golf Completes Play in JT Poston Invitational

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – The Wofford men's golf team shined in round two of the JT Poston Invitational with four Terriers carding sub-60 rounds, but the Terriers overall secured an 11th-place result by way of an 856 score at the par-70 Waynesville Inn and Golf Course. Leading the way for the Terriers was Ben Jordan in 28th with his 212 marker.
 
Wofford opened with a 286 in the three-day event before recording a 272 in the second round of play. A 298 followed on the closing day as the Terriers carded an 856 to place in 11th. Wofford's 272 in round two is the third-lowest single-round score in program history and only three strokes shy of the record. Southern Mississippi won the 15-team event by a single stroke over second-place Kennesaw State with a 13-under 827. Host Western Carolina placed third.
 
Ben Jordan was the top Terrier with a score of 212 at 2-over par. He posted a 71 in round one before carding a 67 in the second round. Finishing with a 74, he secured a top-30 finish. Jordan's 37 pars tied for the third-highest total in the field. Western Carolina's Tyler Jones won the 90-player event with a 10-under 200 score. He was three strokes ahead of the runner up, Jorge Martin Sampedro of UTRGV.
 
Freshman Andrew Neal kept his card at 72 or below the whole way. After an opening-round 72, he shot 69 on day two before wrapping up with another 72. This earned him a tie for 33rd with a score of 213 at 3-over. Andrew Aquino was one stroke behind in a tie for 37th with his score of 214. In his season debut, Aquino carded a 71 and 69 before finishing play with a 74. His 69 in the second round ties for his career low round.
 
Charles Warren tied for 78th with a score of 223. With a 67 in the second round, he was one of the four sub-70 Terriers, but his sandwiched the score with rounds of 78 on both sides. That 67 marks a new career-low round for Warren. Will Brown rounds out the Terrier lineup with his score of 225 in 85th. He carded rounds of 72-75-78. Miller Carr competed as an individual, tying for 86th with his score of 228 (75-77-76).
 
Up next, induvial Terriers will compete in USC Upstate's Carolina Cup September 28-30. That event takes place in Spartanburg at the Carolina Country Club. Wofford's next full-team event is The Bryson Invitational October 13-15 in Charleston, South Carolina.
