Klika Named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week

Wofford libero notched 7.06 digs per set, recorded 1,000th dig

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced today its selections for volleyball players of the week with Wofford's Laney Klika earning the defensive honor. The selections are made by the league office.

This is Klika's third-career SoCon Player of the Week honor, all defensive, after earning it twice last season. The selection marks three consecutive weeks that a Terrier has garnered the recognition after Annemarie Rakoski claimed it each of the last two. The last time Wofford secured three-straight SoCon Defensive Player of the Week awards was in 2023 when Abbey Richman went back-to-back before Sarah Barham capped the streak.

Klika held firm on defense over Wofford's four matches with 113 total digs at a rate of 7.06 per set, leading the SoCon by far for the week. The next closest number was 5.58 per set. A native of Novelty, Ohio, Klika recorded 20-plus digs in three of the four contests and 30-plus in a pair of the matches. Her week began with the lone performance under 20, an 18-dig outing at South Carolina. Klika followed with 26 against Gardner-Webb and 32 against Marshall. The week wrapped up with a career-high 37 digs against Northern Arizona, which set the program's record for digs in a four-set match. She broke her own record of 36, which she set last season. The 37 digs are also the third-highest total for any match in program history.

On top of the record, Klika recorded her 1,000th career dig in the NAU contest, becoming only the 20th Terrier to ever reach the milestone. The junior added 13 assists in the match, notching her third-career double-double. Overall on the week, she posted 29 assists with five aces. Klika was named the MVP of the Wofford Invitational for her performance over the weekend.

With non-conference play in the books, Wofford sets its sights on SoCon action beginning on Thursday with a trip to Charleston, South Carolina, to face The Citadel. First serve is at 6:00 p.m. Wofford then returns home to face Western Carolina at 6:00 p.m. inside the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on Saturday.
