SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's golf team had four individuals compete at this year's Carolina Cup held at the par-72 Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, South Carolina, which concluded Monday afternoon.
Glover Amick was among the top finishers for the Terriers as he finished tied for 13
th with his 224 score, the best finish in his collegiate career.
The three-day tournament started on Sunday, September 28, but shifted to a two-day event due to the weather. The four Terriers that competed were
Marshall Butler,
Davis Neal,
Jack West and
Glover Amick.
Junior
Glover Amick finished with a score of 224 at eight-over par. He posted a career-low of 71 in round one before carding a 75 in the second round. Finishing with a 78, he secured his first top-20 finish. Amick's eight birdies tied for the eighth-highest total in the field. He also tied for the second-best par-5 scoring at 4.67. Tennessee Tech's Haden Maxwell won the 55-player event with a score of 212, four-under par. He won by two strokes ahead of the runner-up Jack Mikesell of Samford.
Junior
Davis Neal opened round one with a 78 but quickly turned it around on day two to card a 74 before ending with a 76. This earned him a tie for 26
th with a score of 228 at 12-over par. Neal tied for the sixth-highest number of pars with 34 during the event.
Marshall Butler continued for the Terriers, recording a 75 in round one. He carded an 81 in round two but came back to finish with a 76 in round three to earn his tie for 39
th place.
The last individual Terrier to place was freshman
Jack West. West made his collegiate debut by posting a 238 to place in a tie for 47
th with rounds of 76-79-83. The freshman tied for 16
th in birdies with 9 during the event.
The Terriers will return as a full team on October 13-15 as they compete at The Bryson Invitational in Charleston, South Carolina.
