ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team battled for an 0-0 draw on the road at Winthrop University Thursday night to record their first tie of the season.
The Terriers applied a strong defense against the Eagles to record their first shutout of the season on the road. This is the first time in 10 meetings with Winthrop where a match ended in a draw.
The Eagles started off in the first half with great pressure on the Terriers' defense, forcing a corner kick at 3:32. However, the Terriers' defense held firm in blocking the Eagles' attempts.
Kate Markey was the first Terrier to strike with an attempt wide in the 15th minute. The Terriers' offense didn't give up with Ines Obradovac and Ellie Gower each having shots on goal that were saved by the Eagles.
The first half ended with a last-minute push by the Eagles' offense, but the attempt was saved by Elizabeth Navola.
The Terriers came back from the break with more opportunities, securing three corner kicks and six shots to try to break the scoreless game.
In the 85th minute, the Terriers secured a late goal, but it was quickly ruled offsides, leaving the Terriers to keep fighting.
In the end, the teams came out evenly matched with each having five shots on goal and five saves. The Terriers had four corner kicks compared to the Eagles' two.

Senior Ines Obradovac had two shots on goal, while Ellie Gower, Annie Andrews and Kaliegh Gonzales each had one.
Madeline Smolenski played her first minutes of the season tonight, seeing a total of eight minutes.
Goalkeeper Elizabeth Navola recorded her first clean sheet of the season.
The Terriers are back at Snyder Field for Senior Day on Sunday, Sept. 7, for a matchup against Charleston Southern at 2 p.m., streaming on ESPN +.
