Nils Machowski Named National And Southern Conference Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After dominant performances at Western Carolina and The Citadel, Wofford men's basketball junior guard, Nils Machowski, has been awarded the Lou Henson National Player of the Week and Southern Conference Player of the Week as the organizations announced the awards on Monday.

Machowski lifted the Terriers to a pair of road wins to open Southern Conference play. Opening the week with a close matchup in Cullowhee, North Carolina, the junior was within one point of his career-high, scoring 27 points while going 9-15 from the field and 4-9 from three. He also added seven rebounds, including two offensive boards, two assists, and one steal and block. Just three days later, the guard broke his career high while setting a new team high in scoring this season with 37 points at The Citadel. He found eight threes on 11 attempts, lifting him to the highest points scored by a Terrier since Fletcher Magee's 36 points at Samford on February 15, 2019. He also went 5-5 from the line, contributing two rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block.

For the season, the Berlin, Germany, native has started all 15 games, scoring double digits in all but two games. He is averaging 15.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while picking up 42 assists and 15 steals. The guard is shooting .400 percent from the field and .330 percent from three. He also leads the team in free throw shooting, going 54-66 (.818) from the line.

Machowski is the first Terrier ever to earn the Lou Henson National Player of the Week award. He is the second Terrier to win SoCon Player of the Week this season. He becomes the 35th Terrier to receive the honor since joining the Southern Conference in 1997. This is the second time that a Terrier has been awarded SoCon Player of the Week in the opening weekend.

The Terriers (10-5, 2-0) open home conference play with UNC Greensboro on January 7, before heading back on the road to Macon, Georgia, to face the Mercer Bears on January 10.
