CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Wofford women's basketball team earned a convincing 73-54 win at Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon. Wofford used a 24-point third quarter to break away from the Catamounts.
 
The Terriers improve to 14-11 on the season with an 8-3 mark in SoCon play. Western Carolina falls to 3-22 and a 0-11 record in conference play.
 
Wofford finished the afternoon shooting 28-of-59 (47.5%) from the field and made nine threes at a 50 percent clip. Western Carolina shot 21-of-47 (44.7%) from the floor and knocked down five triples on 18 attempts. Wofford went 8-of-9 (88.9%) from the charity stripe. The Terriers won the battle on the glass, outrebounding Western Carolina 34-25. Wofford totaled 13 offensive rebounds that resulted in 15 second chance points. Western Carolina turned the ball over 18 times, turning into 20 points for Wofford.
 
Gabby Mundy led the way with 25 points, including a 5-of-10 performance from three-point land. Queen Ikhiuwu followed behind with 14 points, while Toni Warren chipped in 11. Elli Porter rounded out the four double-digit scorers with 10 points. Ikhiuwu had a team-high nine rebounds and three assists. Mundy led the way with two steals.
 
Gabby Mundy scored the first basket of the game, leading to eight unanswered points by the Terriers. Wofford converted that into an 11-point lead a few possessions later, but Western Carolina was able to shorten the deficit to four points, 15-11. A three-pointer by Mundy followed by a Queen Ikhiuwu layup gave the team a 20-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
Another triple by Mundy started the second quarter, as Wofford jumped out to a 23-11 advantage. A 9-0 run from the Catamounts got the game back to three points, however. A three-pointer from Maddie Heiss ended the Wofford skid. Western Carolina would cut the deficit three points again, but six unanswered points from Wofford allowed the team to take a 34-25 lead into the break.
 
A layup by Queen Ikhiuwu to start the second half got the Wofford lead back to 11 points. Western Carolina once again cut the Wofford lead to seven points, but a 17-4 run over the next seven minutes of game time gave the Terriers a 20-point lead at 53-33. The two teams traded baskets over the final two minutes of the third quarter, as Wofford led 58-39 heading into the final frame.
 
A jumper by Elli Porter pushed the Wofford lead to 21 points, 60-39, early in the fourth quarter. The Terriers cruised from there, not letting Western Carolina get closer than 15 points for the rest of the game. Wofford defeated the Catamounts 73-54.
 
Wofford will return home for its final two home games of the season. The Terriers will welcome Mercer for its annual education day game on Thursday, February 19, with an 11:00 a.m. tip-off. Samford will close out the home schedule for Wofford this season on Saturday, February 21.
