SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College women's lacrosse team fell to the Le Moyne Dolphins, 13-9, on Tuesday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium.
Wofford (0-3) was led by
Olivia Graebner and
Kaitlyn Bellanca with two goals and an assist each.
McKenzie Moeller had a goal and two assists.
Carlie Cutinella had two goals, while
Emma Stalteri had one goal and one assist.
Vivian Chiomento led the Terriers in draw controls with six. The Dolphins held the shot advantage, 32-25.
Wofford had 18 ground balls to Le Moyne's 21 as
Brooke Meltcher led the team with six, one off the program's record. Wofford caused six turnovers to their four as
Brooke Meltcher had two.
Hannah Taylor had 14 saves with a .519 save percentage.
Le Moyne found the net first in the third minute before extending their lead in the fifth.
Kaitlyn Bellanca cut the Dolphin lead in half with an assist from
Olivia Graebner. Le Moyne went on to score three unanswered goals to end the quarter, 5-1.
The Dolphins added to their lead within 10 seconds of the second quarter. They added one more before Graebner added a goal to her stat sheet. The Dolphins went on to score two more and then
Emma Stalteri grabbed a goal with seven minutes left in the quarter. Wofford held the Dolphins off for the rest of the half, but was unable to shorten the lead further, 9-3.
Carlie Cutinella opened scoring for the second half with a free-position goal in the first two minutes.
McKenzie Moeller added another two minutes later after a dish from Stalteri. That marks a third straight game with a goal from Moeller. Cutinella found her second of the day off a pass from Bellanca to cut the Dolphin advantage to three in the eighth minute of the quarter.
Hannah Taylor made a crucial free position shot save to hold off the Dolphins for a while, but they converted their second time around with 1:40 left. Graebner pulled the goal back with her second goal of the day, but Le Moyne scored another just 20 seconds later to end the third quarter up 11-7.
Le Moyne scored first, two minutes into the final frame. Bellanca grabbed a goal off a pass from Moeller to bring the game within four with six minutes left.
Morgan Siglin found her first career goal just 30 seconds later with an assist from Moeller. The Dolphins struck back within 30 seconds to stave off a late run from the Terriers, 13-9.
Wofford will host the New Haven Chargers on Friday, February 27, at Gibbs Stadium at 4 p.m.
