The Terriers improve to 16-11 with a 10-3 mark in Southern Conference play. Winners of five in a row, Wofford is currently second place in the SoCon. Samford falls to 12-17 and 5-7 in conference play. It is the first time since the 2022-23 season Wofford has won 10 or more conference games in a season.
Wofford finished the day shooting 20-of-56 (35.7%) from the field and made seven triples. Samford shot 17-of-53 (32.1%) on the day and made nine threes on 26 attempts. Wofford won the rebounding battle, totaling 40 boards to Samford's 34. Nine offensive rebounds from the Terriers led to 12 second chance points. Wofford only turned the ball over seven times while Samford committed 11 turnovers.
Maddie Heiss led the scoring efforts, totaling 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting with three triples.
Gabby Mundy followed behind with 14 points.
Queen Ikhiuwu paced the team with eight rebounds and four assists. Ikhiuwu and Masingale tallied one block each.
A three-pointer from Samford to start the game led to seven unanswered points from the Bulldogs, as Wofford trailed 7-0 with under seven minutes left in the quarter.
Gabby Mundy got Wofford on the board shortly after, along with a basket from
Maddie Heiss to shorten the deficit to three points. Samford responded with back-to-back triples, but
Maddie Heiss found another layup towards the end of the stanza. Samford led 13-6 heading into the second quarter.
Another basket from Samford stretched the Bulldog lead to nine points early in the second. Wofford was able to cut the lead to three points, but Samford responded with back-to-back buckets to get its lead back to eight points, 23-15. An 8-0 run from there tied the game at 23-all with just over a minute to play in the half. Samford was held scoreless for over three minutes of game time during the run. The teams traded baskets for the final minute, as Wofford trailed 27-25 at the half.
Toni Warren tied the game at 27-all to start the second half, but Samford responded with two-straight triples to extend its lead to 33-27. With Wofford down eight points a few possessions later, the team rolled off 13 unanswered points to take a five-point lead. Wofford would carry a 45-40 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Neither team scored for over four minutes to start the final frame. The Terriers were the first ones to get on the board, scoring four points to further their lead to nine points, 49-40. Wofford was able to keep Samford scoreless until the 2:35 mark in the fourth quarter. That was enough to hold on, as Wofford won 52-44. The Terriers held Samford to four points in the fourth quarter.
Wofford will close out the regular season at Furman on Saturday, February 28, at 2:00 p.m. The team will then travel to Asheville, North Carolina, for the Southern Conference Tournament on March 5-8.
