SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford baseball team (6-2) defeated Davidson College 12-8 with the help of strong pitching efforts from the Terriers' bullpen and big offensive plays on Tuesday night at Russell C. King Field.
Sheldon Egger got his first start of the season on the mound for the Terriers before
Branton Little entered in relief. Little (1-1) pitched for 4.2 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out eight batters, a career-high, to hold the Wildcats scoreless.
Austin Laughlin and
Corben Childers would follow, then
Champ Davis would close for the Terriers, striking out two batters and allowing two hits and one run. The Terriers' bullpen would combine for a season-high of 15 strikeouts.

The Terriers had a shaky start with two hits and three runs given up in the first inning. Wofford quickly came back with Little on the mound to stop Davidson's run for 4.2 straight innings. With two outs on the board in the bottom of the second,
Zach Porter and
James Layman had back-to-back doubles that would bring in three runs to tie the ballgame. The momentum at the plate didn't stop there for the Terriers. With the Terriers bringing in small ball tactics into the third and a two-run homerun by Timblin, Wofford found themselves five more runs to take the lead over Davidson 8-3.
After two quick innings, the Wildcats would come back with two singles and a double to bring in three runs to cut the Terriers' lead to 8-6. The Wildcats would shut the Terriers out of any scoring opportunities in the sixth and would answer with a home run to centerfield to cut Wofford's lead to one run in the top of the seventh. Wofford would come into the seventh with a Timblin sacrifice bunt and Campi sacrifice fly to help the Terriers pull away with a 10-7 lead.
