Softball Downs Georgia Southern 11-1 at Tiger Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Wofford softball team downed the Georgia Southern Eagles 11-1 on Saturday morning at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Clemson University. Wofford improves to 15-3 on the season.
 
Abby Greenwood got the start, pitching a full seven innings to improve her record to 6-1. Greenwood only allowed one run on six hits with three strikeouts. On offense, Kaytlin Greenwood had a team-high three hits, two runs scored, and one RBI. Kate Platte followed behind with two hits, two RBI, and one run scored. Kalli Petty tripled to drive in two runs, and Abbi Campbell tallied two RBI as well. Rivers Sampson and Brianna Stanley also recorded an RBI. Gracie Parker and Addison Lucier stole one base apiece.
 
Neither team scored in the first inning of the game, but the Terriers were able to take a 1-0 lead in the second. Kaytlin Greenwood doubled up the middle to score Gracie Parker. Georgia Southern responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at one-all. In the third, Kalli Petty tripled to right center to score two runs. Brianna Stanley and Addison Lucier scored the runs to give Wofford a 3-1 advantage in the third. After keeping Georgia Southern off the board, the Terriers added one more run in the top of the fourth, as Kate Platte drove in Kaytlin Greenwood. Wofford added four more runs in the sixth inning to stretch its lead to 8-1. Lauren Archambault scored the first run off a fielder's choice. Gracie Parker followed that up with a steal to home, and Rivers Sampson would be walked later on to score Abbi Campbell. A Brianna Stanley sacrifice fly to drive in Kate Platte ended the scoring. The Terriers scored three more runs in the top of the seventh to earn an 11-1 win over Georgia Southern. Archambault, Greenwood, and Madison Thieke scored the three runs.
 
Wofford will be back in action on Sunday for the final day of the Tiger Invitational. The opponent and time will be announced at the conclusion of all games today.
