SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford baseball team (10-6) returned to Fifth Third Park Tuesday evening to face off against USC Upstate but fell 5-2.
Right-handed pitcher
John Gray made his first career start for the Terriers. Gray pitched for four innings, giving up three hits and two runs while striking out a game high of four batters.
Corben Childers (0-1) and
Cade Bouknight pitched in relief from the Terriers' bullpen. Childers pitched for one inning, giving up two hits and three runs, while striking out three batters. Bouknight threw a no-hitter for two innings and struck out two batters, before

The Terriers couldn't find an opportunity at the plate until the fourth inning, while the Spartans found a run in the first inning to give them a 1-0 edge. The Spartans would continue to score in the second with a sacrifice fly to bring the score 2-0. Both teams would remain scoreless until the fourth when the Terriers found their first runs of the night to cut the Spartans lead. After a ground out by
Niko Brini, Wofford's batting order would single three times in a row to put the Terriers on the board with a run by
Logan Tribble to make it a 2-1 ballgame.
Hunter Herndon, with a sacrifice bunt, would bring in
Ben Timblin from third to tie it up with two outs on the board.
The Spartans would hold the Terriers scoreless for the rest of the game despite multiple hits by Wofford's batting. Upstate would add three runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Terriers, looking for an effort in the ninth, would fall short with a 1-2-3 inning to end the ballgame in the Spartans favor.
