SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford softball team defeated the Longwood Lancers 10-2 in five innings on Friday evening at Hope Field. The Terriers improve to 17-4 after taking game one of the series.

Abby Greenwood went the distance after throwing 5.0 innings. Greenwood allowed two runs on three hits while striking out five batters. She improves to 7-1 on the season.
Kalli Petty led the team with a three-run shot for her first career homer.
Kaytlin Greenwood went 2-of-3 from the plate with two RBI.
Desirae Devine tallied two RBI after a double in the third inning.
Rivers Sampson and
Brianna Stanley also finished with one RBI. Sampson and
Addison Lucier scored two runs each. Sampson and Devine stole one base apiece. Wofford out hit Longwood 5-3. The Terriers were walked 12 times in the game, tying the program record for walks in a game.

Longwood started the game with a run in the first inning, putting Wofford down 1-0 early on. After a pair of scoreless innings from the Terriers, Longwood was able to add one more run in the top of the third. Wofford trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the third inning. The Terriers responded, however, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the frame. The team started off with three-straight walks, loading the bases for
Brianna Stanley. Stanley drove in
Sydney Baker with a sacrifice fly to right field to start the scoring.
Kaytlin Greenwood followed that up with a two RBI double down the right field line.
Rivers Sampson and
Addison Lucier scored to put the Terriers up 3-2.
Desirae Devine continued the hot hitting with another two RBI double to score Greenwood and
Gracie Parker. That would close the scoring as Wofford held a 5-2 lead at the end of the third.

Longwood had a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fourth, and Wofford was able to add four more runs in the bottom of the inning. With two outs,
Rivers Sampson reached first with a single through the right side to score
Addison Lucier.
Brianna Stanley was hit by a pitch after that, setting up a three-run homer to left center from
Kalli Petty. Petty's first career home run put Wofford up 9-2. Longwood could not score a run in the top of the fifth. The Terriers were able to end the game in five innings after that, with
Lauren Archambault scoring off a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth. Wofford would defeat Longwood 10-2 in the series opener.

The Terriers will be back in action on Saturday, March 14, for a doubleheader against Longwood. Games are set for 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
