Baseball Drops Doubleheader against Princeton

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford baseball team (12-8) dropped both games of a doubleheader against Princeton on Saturday afternoon at Russell C. King Field. The Terriers lost the first game 3-0 in seven innings and lost 6-5 in 11 innings to close out day. 

Game One:
Alec Bouchard got the start for the Terriers in the first game. Bouchard (2-2) pitched four innings, giving up seven hits and three runs while striking out four batters. Champ Davis followed in relief, pitching for three innings. Davis gave up three hits and struck out three batters.
Wofford and Princeton wouldn't produce any runs until the fifth inning. The Tigers struck first, scoring all three runs in the fifth. The Terriers tried finding momentum at the plate in the late innings, producing two hits, but their opportunities were cut short. Princeton would shutout Wofford 3-0 in seven innings to take the first win of the day.

Game Two:
Cullen Condon started the second game and pitched for three innings, giving up three hits and one run. Cade Bouknight, John Gray, Branton Little and PJ Fitzpatrick (1-2) followed in relief.
The Tigers would score first on a bunt single to take a 1-0 edge in the third inning.  Brady Gold would lead off for the Terriers in the fifth inning with a single. Niko Brini singled to center field to bring in the first run of the day, tying the game 1-1. Wofford continued to bring in three more runs from Princeton's errors to take a 4-1 lead. A single bunt from Niko Brini would bring in one more run for the Terriers in the sixth for a 5-1 score. However, the Tigers took advantage of Wofford errors and scored twice in the seventh inning and twice in the ninth inning forcing extra innings tied at 5-5. After scoring a run in the top of the 11th inning to take a 6-5 lead, Princeton was able to close out the game as the Terriers stranded two on base in the bottom of the frame.

  •  The Terriers bullpen and starters ended with a combined 14 strikeouts.
The Terriers will complete the weekend series against Princeton on Sunday, March 15, at 1 p.m., streaming on ESPN +.
