Wofford Baseball Dominates Xavier in 14-2 Win

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Wofford baseball team secured a 14-2 win against Xavier on Saturday afternoon at Hayden Field in seven innings. The Terriers (15-9) hit five home runs in the game as they tied the weekend series at 1-1.

"It went well defensively," freshman catcher JT Smith said. "Everyone was in a better spot hitting, being aggressive on offense at the plate."

Alec Bouchard (3-2) earned his sixth start of the season and pitched for five innings, throwing three strikeouts while giving up five hits and one run. Hiram Lewis closed the game, pitching for two innings. Lewis allowed just two hits and one run while striking out one batter. Logan Tribble led the way for Wofford's offense with two runs on three hits and five RBI. Marc Quarrie and Niko Brini followed with three RBI each. Quarrie is the first Terrier since May 2024 to hit two home runs in one game.

The Terriers had two outs in the top of the first when Logan Tribble on a 1-1 count hit a solo home run to left field to put the Terriers on the board first at 1-0. Ben Timblin and Marc Quarrie would follow up with their own solo home runs to make it a 3-0 ball game. The Musketeers didn't hesitate to answer back with a run of their own to cut the game to 3-1 at the end of the first. Wofford would keep their momentum in the second inning to bring in three more runs. Niko Brini grounded out with the bases loaded to bring in JT Smith. Logan Tribble would immediately follow up with a two-RBI single to left field to further Wofford's lead at 6-1.

The Terriers had a massive fourth inning to bring in six runs. Freshman Brady Gold hit a leadoff single down right field to start off the fourth inning and Cade Collins was hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt by Niko Brini would put Wofford in scoring position, giving Logan Tribble the chance to hit a two-RBI single for an 8-1 lead. The Terriers would see another home run from Marc Quarrie, an RBI single from Tanner Hardin, and an RBI double from JT Smith to bring it a 12-1 ball game.

Wofford would quickly retire the Musketeers in the fourth inning. Cade Collins led off with a single to start the fifth inning. Niko Brini followed up with the Terriers' fifth home run of the game to lock down a 14-1 lead. Pitching efforts from Alec Bouchard and Hiram Lewis would keep Xavier scoreless for five-straight innings. The Musketeers found an opportunity in the seventh inning with a home run to left field to cut the Terriers lead to 14-2.

"Today's performance set the tone," Marc Quarrie said. "We know what we're capable of doing and we're not going to let one game stop us from putting our best baseball out on the field. Even though we got punched once, we'll get right back up and punch back."
