Wofford Women’s Lacrosse Cruises Past Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Wofford College women's lacrosse team stayed undefeated in Big South play with a win over the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs, 18-7, on Saturday evening in Spangler Stadium. The Terriers held GWU to seven goals, marking consecutive games holding their opponent under ten goals.

Wofford (4-7, 2-0) was led by three goals and three assists from Katie Brosseau. She was accompanied by four goals and an assist from Carlie Cutinella. McKenzie Moeller had all three of her goals come in the first quarter, adding an assist as well. 11 different Terriers grabbed points.
The Terriers held the shot advantage, 38-17. Wofford had 16 ground balls to Gardner-Webb's 14, led by Laura Montagna's four. Wofford caused 13 turnovers to the Runnin' Bulldogs' 11, with Barrett Rowe and Montagna causing two each. Hannah Taylor and Norah Teff both made two saves.

McKenzie Moeller opened the scoring in the game after 3:30 minutes, after Ella Bartlett caused a Gardner-Webb turnover. Carlie Cutinella was second on the scoresheet with an unassisted goal two minutes later. Moeller found the back of the net two more times before Olivia Grabner scored her first of the day to give the Terriers a 5-0 lead. Gardner-Webb grabbed its first goal of the game with four minutes left to play in the first quarter. The goals did not stop flowing for the Terriers as Cutinella would strike back 45 seconds later, followed shortly by Graebner's second goal and a third for Cutinella. The Runnin' Bulldogs would reduce their deficit by one before the end of the quarter, 8-2.

Katie Brosseau found the net 32 seconds into the second quarter after Wofford was able to grab the rebound of their own shot. Sara Fenwick gave the Terriers goal number ten a minute later, but GWU was able to return the favor 25 seconds after. It took less than a minute for the Terriers to find more goals, with Cutinella and Ainsley Towle scoring. Gardner-Webb grabbed one back before Brosseau could stunt any momentum for GWU. Scoring halted completely for over six minutes, despite five shots from the Terriers. Brosseau was the one who broke the seal just before halftime, making it 14-4.

Scoring continued to slow in the third quarter with only three goals scored in total. Ella Bartlett scored first with 12 minutes to play, but GWU cancelled out her goal after another five minutes. Mia Leon capped off scoring in the quarter with three minutes left, but neither team was able to generate any strong scoring opportunities, 16-5. The Runnin' Bulldogs were able to hold off any further attempts from the Terriers to extend the lead as the final quarter ended even, 2-2, with Brooke Meltcher scoring her first goal of the season. Ava Santanastasio found the net as well as Wofford won by a margin of 18-7.

Wofford will continue conference play at Furman on Wednesday, April 1. The Terriers will travel to the Paladins at 7 p.m. in Greenville, South Carolina, with all action streamed on ESPN+.
