Wofford Baseball Shutouts UNC Asheville 11-0 to Clinch Series

SPARTANBURG, S.C.—The Wofford baseball team shut out UNC Asheville 11-0 in seven innings with the Wofford offense and strong pitching by Cullen Condon and PJ Fitzpatrick leading the way. The Terriers (28-11, 8-1) made a statement early with seven runs in the second inning, as they held the Bulldogs (16-23, 4-8) to just one hit.

Cullen Condon made the start for the Terriers, pitching six innings. Condon (4-1) threw four strikeouts and allowed just one hit. PJ Fitzpatrick followed in relief, throwing three straight strikeouts to secure the shutout. Logan Tribble led the Terriers at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Brady Gold followed with two hits and one run. Hunter Herndon added four RBI with one hit.

After a scoreless first inning and the top of the second, Wofford plated seven runs in the bottom of the second. With one runner on base, Tanner Hardin added a single. Wofford saw their first two runs on a pair of RBI singles by Brady Gold and Cade Collins. Niko Brini followed with a two-RBI single to boost the score to 4-0 with one out on the board. Brini stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a single by Logan Tribble for a 5-0 lead. The Terriers batting order didn't stop there as a double by Marc Quarrie and a sacrifice by Hunter Herndon built the lead to 7-0. 

The Bulldogs came into the third inning with a leadoff single, but the runner was stranded at third. Moving to the top of the fourth, Logan Tribble led off with a single. A fielder's choice by Hunter Herndon drove home a run to extend Wofford's advantage to 8-0. A quick fifth inning followed for both teams before the Terriers came into the sixth inning scoring three more runs. Singles by Logan Tribble and Alex Myers put Wofford in scoring position. Hunter Herndon followed up with a double to drive home two runs for a 10-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by Tanner Hardin drove in the last run of the game as Wofford went up 11-0. PJ Fitzpatrick took over on the mound for Condon, throwing three straight strikeouts to end the game.
