GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford College softball team dropped a 5-3 rubber match at Furman on Saturday afternoon. The team falls to 30-17 on the season with a 7-10 mark in conference play.

Abby Greenwood got the start in the rubber match, pitching 2.0 innings with two runs on four hits.
Maddie Berry pitched the third inning, giving up one run on two hits.
Margaret Axelson went 1.0 innings with two runs on two hits.
Natalya Salo closed the final 2.0 innings with one strikeout and no hits allowed.
Abby Greenwood suffered the loss.
Desirae Devine led the team after going 1-of-2 with two RBI.
Rivers Sampson batted 2-of-4 with one RBI.
Gracie Parker tallied one stolen base. Wofford was out hit 8-7 by the Paladins. Furman committed three errors compared to zero from Wofford.

Furman got off to a hot start, taking a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Terriers loaded the bases in the top of the second inning but could not convert on the opportunity. After a quiet third inning for both teams, Wofford was able to score its first run of the game to shorten the deficit to 2-1.
Rivers Sampson reached second off a Furman error to start the inning.
Desirae Devine would later drive Sampson in with a single through the left side.

Furman responded, however, adding a run of its own in the bottom half of the frame to put Wofford down 3-1. With one out in the fifth,
Addison Lucier singled through the middle which was followed by a
Brianna Stanley walk.
Rivers Sampson sent Lucier home with a double down the left field line to bring Wofford within one, 3-2. Back-to-back homers from Furman in the bottom of the fifth further extended the Paladin lead to 5-2. The Terriers scored one run in the top of the seventh to get the game within two runs. That was all Wofford could muster up, however, losing the game 5-3.

The team will be back in action on May 1-2 with a home series against Western Carolina. The final series of the regular season will include senior day on Saturday, May 2.
