Wofford Baseball Drops Midweek Contest Against Gardner-Webb

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –The Wofford baseball team lost to Gardner-Webb by a 6-0 score at Russell C. King Field Tuesday night. The Terriers (30-14, 8-4) allowed just one run in the second inning by the Runnin' Bulldogs (21-24), but five combined runs in the seventh and eighth innings allowed Gardner-Webb to expand their lead over Wofford.

Sheldon Egger made the start on the mound, pitching two innings. Egger (2-2) gave up two hits and one run with one strikeout. PJ Fitzpatrick, Cole Draper, Corben Childers, Champ Davis, and Austin Laughlin followed in relief. Logan Tribble, Tanner Hardin, and Lucas Manning each had one hit on the night for Wofford.

After a quiet first inning, Gardner-Webb had a double and then with two outs a double brought in the first run of the game for the Runnin' Bulldogs. The Terriers didn't see their first hits until the third inning when Tanner Hardin led off with a single. A double play was followed by a single by Lucas Manning, but he was unable to score.

The game remained 1-0 until the seventh inning, when the Runnin' Bulldogs plated three runs off a solo home run, a sacrifice fly, and an error to make it a 4-0 lead. Wofford left one runner on base in the bottom of the seventh. Gardner-Webb brought in two more runs in the top of the eighth to extend the lead to 6-0. After Wofford stranded two runners on base in the bottom of the eighth, the Terriers held off the Runnin' Bulldogs in the top of the ninth. With one out in the bottom half of the ninth, Logan Tribble hit a double to centerfield, but he was unable to score.

The Terriers are back at King Field on Friday, May 1, as they face off against Western Carolina with first pitch slated for 5:30 p.m.
