Volleyball Earns 3-0 Sweep Over Winthrop in Season Opener

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Wofford volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep against the Winthrop Eagles in the season opener on Saturday evening. The Terriers start the year 1-0 at the Wildcat Classic hosted by Davidson College. Winthrop falls to 0-2.
 
Chloe Smith paced the team with 13 kills and seven digs. Natalie Arnold followed behind with eight kills, Bradley Brown with seven, and Charlotte Bell with six. Freshman Avery White posted five kills in her collegiate debut. Taylor Pecht dished out 19 assists while Maddy Frazier finished with 17. Smith led the team with three service aces.
 
Natalie Arnold and Bradley Brown finished the night with three blocks apiece, along with two each from Charlotte Bell and Chloe Smith. Laney Klika opened the season with 16 digs. Pecht was just short of a double-double with eight digs.
 
Wofford finished the night with a .422 hitting percentage with 44 kills compared to 41 kills on a .231 percentage from Winthrop. The Eagles totaled six aces compared to Wofford's five. The Terriers had six blocks to Winthrop's two. Wofford closed the night with 40 assists and 42 digs to outpace Winthrop.
 
Taylor Pecht earned the first point of the 2026 season with a service ace, giving Wofford a 1-0 lead early on against Winthrop. Winthrop responded, however, taking a 4-2 lead. Three kills from Natalie Arnold sparked a 6-0 run as Wofford regained an 8-4 lead. The Terriers continued to hold a steady lead all the way until the end of the set. Despite Winthrop cutting the deficit to two points, 23-21, Wofford was able to hang on to win set one 25-22.
 
Winthrop started the second set with a 2-0 advantage but kills from Natalie Arnold and Charlotte Bell evened the set at two-all. Winthrop eventually found a cushion, taking a 15-10 lead heading into the media timeout. Six-straight points later on in the set put Wofford in front 21-19, however. Those six points were part of a 10-1 run as the Terriers earned a 25-20 win in set two. Chloe Smith was posted four kills in the final six points for Wofford.
 
Wofford opened up the third set with a 3-0 lead after a trio of attacking errors from Winthrop. The team continued to build on the lead, taking a 15-6 lead into the final media timeout of the match. Wofford eventually extended that advantage to 19-8 and would win the final set 25-14.
 
The Terriers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon to take on Davidson College at 2:00 p.m. to close out the Wildcat Classic. The match can be streamed live on ESPN+.
