College of Charleston Cougars
Head Coach Bobby Cremins
Opening Statement…….
“Obviously this is a great disappointment. However, give credit to a great Wofford team that is an experienced team. Mike Young and his team are a class act. They will be a great representative for our conference in the NCAA’s. I hate it for our seniors because they have been great. We got in foul trouble which really hurt us, and I should have taken Drew out of the game when he picked up his second foul. It was an unusual situation because it never happened to us this season. Drew does not pick up too many fouls.
You know, we were ok in this game for 36 minutes and were surviving. We were up four in the second half and things got a little out of hand for us. I went with the small lineup tonight again because it has been good to us. They have been doing a great job for us lately. It is really hard to beat a team three times, especially against a team like Wofford. However, I felt we had a great chance today, but it just did not go our way. Give all the credit to Wofford. They went to the NCAA tournament last year and lost to a really good Wisconsin team by only four. Anyone who underestimates them could be in trouble in a couple of weeks. I thought coming into the tournament, they would be the team to beat. Now we will go to the NIT and give it our best shot. Life goes on.”
Senior Guard Drew Goudelock
Talk about the disappointment and second time in title twice to come up short…..
That is what we play for. Big disappointment for our seniors. Life goes on like coach said. It’s going to take a while. We have to swallow the pill though and get ready for the NIT.
Senior Guard Donavan Monroe
“Something we wanted and being seniors. We came up short. It happened for a reason and play in the NIT tourney and hopefully make a run. Keep our heads up. They are a great team”
Wofford Terriers
Head Coach Mike Young
Opening Statement:
“A big applause from our program to the Cougars. They had a great run at it, and played so well. Great competition against a great coach and players. Down four at the half, we hadn’t played real well. We battled defensively. We came back in the second half and put things together. They (Jamar Diggs and Cameron Rundles) were exceptional. As was Tim Johnson and Nathan Parker again tonight on this stage. His athleticism was a go get the ball off the rim night and did it well. Dahlman had a pretty good night as well. We are tickled to death to go back-to-back in this league. To do it in any league is beyond difficult. We did it and are beyond excited.”
On making 22 free throws.
“Really huge. It was a big story of the game. We had a statistic that is important to us. We want to make more than our opponent takes. To do that tonight going 22-24 is incredible and they were 13-20. That comes from having a great interior presence and can get to the paint off the bounce. Big story of the game was getting to the line.”
On meeting preseason expectations:
“Rewarding and a tribute to these guys. It is hard to go back to back and with the expectations. The dynamics change one year from the next. It has been smooth waters. We had tough times. I knew that if we could make it to this tournament playing well we would have a good of a shot as anybody.”
Senior Guard Jamar Diggs
On play in the second half:
“We just fought. They are a good team and are going to make a run. We knew that going into halftime we hadn’t played that well. In the second half we knew we were going to make our run.”
Senior Guard Cameron Rundles
On team being confident going into the game:
“We felt confident before the game. They beat us twice in the regular season, but we are the defending Southern Conference Champions. No one has beaten us in March at the Southern Conference tournament the past two years. I think we were confidant a lot going into it. Down four, down seven, up seven, we are a confident bunch.”
On going back to NCAA Tournament:
“Definitely, I think we do. I don’t think it is a confident thing. We were just a little excited to be there. In the first half we struggled against Wisconsin, and in the second half we knew that we belong there. We think we belong there and know we belong there. I think it is more of being there and being our second time around.”
Senior Forward Noah Dahlman
On Minnesota Mafia:
“It goes back to the high school days. We started playing with each other and building our relationship. That is when the bond developed. When I saw an opportunity I brought it to Coach Young. I don’t know why you would take advice from a freshman at the time. I am going to trust this freshman and trust his word that these guys were something special and except them into the program. A lot of transfers don’t work out, but I knew the character of these guys and what they would bring to the program.”
