J.T. Maguire

J.T. Maguire joined the coaching staff in the fall of 2014 as the volunteer assistant. In his second season on staff, he will continue to work with the hitters and outfielders at Wofford.
    
During his first season at Wofford, the team won a school-record 39 games and finished third in the Southern Conference with a 13-10 mark. The team reached the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament. Wofford had seven starters hitting above .300 on the season, with a team batting average of .302 which ranked second in the SoCon and 15th in the nation. The Terriers had 184 extra base hits on the year, leading the SoCon in doubles with 125 and triples with 20. Nationally, the team was first in stolen bases with 138, second in stolen bases per game, 18th in doubles, 24th in hits, 25th in scoring, 31st in slugging percentage, and 13th in on-base percentage. Outfielder James Plaisted was named second team All-Southern Conference, while outfielder Kody Ruedisili was named to the All-Tournament Team.
    
Before coming to Wofford, Maguire spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Harford Community College in Maryland. In 2014, the team won the Region XX Championship with a 30-31-1 overall record, but were defeated in the NJCAA District Championships by Spartanburg Methodist College. In 2013, the team won over 30 games. He was in charge of all of the strength and conditioning work for the baseball team. He coached third base and worked with the outfielders, hitters and baserunners for the Fighting Owls.
    
Maguire starred at North Harford High School before playing JUCO baseball at Delaware Tech for head coach Curtis Brock. He then continued his playing career at St. Andrews University, an NCAA Division II school in North Carolina.
    
Maguire’s coaching record prior to Harford Community College was with a pair of successful high school programs. He was an assistant at The Park School during their Maryland State Title season and he also coached at his alma mater North Harford the year they were runner’s up to the state championship.
    
He coached four players who went on to play at the Division I level. Ben Brewster (The Park School) played college ball at Maryland and was drafted in the 2014 MLB Draft. At North Harford, Maguire coached Kevin Mooney (Maryland’s closer during the 2014 NCAA Super Regionals run), Cody Brittain (USC Upstate), and Ryan Stinar (Albany).
    
Maguire is a Certified Personal Trainer and he also worked at Med Star Health Sports Medicine. He works various college baseball camps throughout the year.  During the summer of 2015, he was the head coach of the Forest City Owls in the Coastal Plains League and will return to Forest City in the summer of 2016.
