Hudson Byorick joined the staff in the fall of 2022 as the director of player development and was elevated to an assistant coach the following season, working primarily with the hitters. Byorick enters his fourth season on staff in 2025 after adding the duties of recruiting coordinator in the summer of 2024. A 2020 graduate of Wofford, Byorick returned to Spartanburg after a playing career with the Terriers.
The Terriers posted a 33-27 campaign in 2025, the seventh 30-win season in a row for the program. At 8-13 in Southern Conference play, the Terriers were the No. 7 seed in the SoCon Tournament. The Terriers led the SoCon in triples (17) and hit-by-pitch (113), ranking 28th and 22nd in the nation, respectively. The hit batsmen set a new program record. Wofford remained a strong small ball team, ranking second in the conference in both sacrifice bunts (45) and stolen bases (158). The steals were seventh nationally as the bunts ranked 12th. The season featured a historic performance in which Ryan Wynn hit for the cycle against Ohio on February 16, which was just the third cycle ever in program history. Byorick developed James Layman into a key contributor, as the junior finished third in the SoCon with a .369 batting average in just his first full season of action. Freshman Tanner Hardin made an immediate impact, ranking fifth in the SoCon with a .346 average and being honored on the SoCon All-Freshman Team.
In 2024, Byorick headed one of the nation’s best offenses en route to Wofford posting a 42-20 record with a 12-8 league clip to secure the SoCon Tournament championship. It was Wofford’s third-straight 40-win season, and the 42 wins tied the program record. The SoCon Tournament title was Wofford’s second, and the Terriers were selected as the No. 3 seed in the Chapel Hill Regional. Wofford bested Long Island 5-2 in game two to grab the program’s first NCAA Tournament victory. Byorick’s offense ranked near the top of the country in many categories, notably topping the nation with a program-record 33 triples. Wofford also ranked second nationally in batting average (.334), runs (617), runs per game (10.0) and sacrifice flies (41) while sitting third in on-base percentage (.438), fourth in sacrifice bunts (55) and fifth in hits (716). Three Terriers ranked in the top 10 of the SoCon in batting average. Marshall Toole’s 43 steals and 10 triples both set new program records. He was named First-Team All-SoCon alongside Dixon Black and Zac Cowan. Daniel Jackson earned SoCon Freshman of the Year honors, and he was joined on the all-freshman team by Tyler Back, Kenny Michaels and Camden Wicker.
Byorick’s first season on the staff in 2023 saw Wofford post a 40-19 record with a 12-9 SoCon clip. It was Wofford’s second-ever 40-win campaign. The Terriers returned to the SoCon Championship for the second-straight season. Ryan Galanie was named SoCon Player of the Year and was joined on the All-SoCon First Team by pitcher Lucas Mahlstedt. The second team included Coulson Buchanan, Matthew Marchal, Cameron Gill and Dixon Black. Three Terriers featured on the SoCon All-Freshman Team: Zac Cowan, Branton Little and Charlie Weber. Wofford’s .314 batting average was second in the conference and 13th in the nation, and the Terriers topped the confernce in ERA with a 5.23 clip. With 2.38 walks allowed per nine innings, Wofford led the entirety of Division I baseball. The Terriers also topped the nation with 86 sacrifice bunts, a program record. With a fielding percentage of .978, Wofford led the SoCon and set a new single-season program record.
In two seasons as a player from 2019-20, Byorick made 77 starts in the outfield and played in 78 games overall. He owned a career .336 average with 93 hits, 53 RBI and 63 runs scored along with 11 stolen bases. Byorick then played a fifth season as a graduate transfer at West Virginia.
Prior to joining the Terriers, Byorick played at Pierce College where he earned West Division First-Team All-Star honors with a .335 average and three homers with 28 RBI. His 27 walks led the team.
Byorick graduated from Wofford College in 2020 with a degree in business economics and added a master’s in business data analytics from West Virginia University. He and his wife, Kasey, married in the fall of 2022.
