Ceri Miller HS 16

Ceri Miller

Wofford College named Ceri Miller as head coach of the women’s lacrosse team on February 1, 2016 and Miller coached the inaugural team in 2018.

In 2018, Wofford went 2-15 and 1-4 in Southern Conference play with a team that included 13 freshmen and four juniors, all transfers from Miller's previous stop at Goucher College. The Terriers picked up the program's first win in an 18-4 rout at Delaware State before following that up with another road win, downing Howard 17-5.

Miller coached junior defender Monica Branch to a Second Team All-SoCon selection, while freshman Hannah Mutch was also placed on the All-Freshman team. Mutch scored the first goal in program history in the opener and was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week twice on the year.

Off the field, Wofford was recognized by the IWLCA as a Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll Squad for having a team GPA higher than 3.0 in 2017-18. The honor is especially noteworthy as the Wofford squad was comprised of just four juniors and 13 freshmen. Individually, Branch was named to the 2018 IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll. She also made the 2017-18 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Miller spent three seasons as the head coach at Goucher College before coming to Spartanburg to start Wofford's program.

“We are extremely excited to have Ceri Miller joining our staff as head coach,” said Director of Athletics Richard Johnson. “We feel we have found the right person to build a strong women’s lacrosse program here at Wofford.”

“I would like to thank Athletic Director Richard Johnson and President Samhat for this incredible opportunity,” said Miller. “I am honored to be chosen as the first coach in Wofford women’s lacrosse history and look forward to building upon my experiences and success from Goucher. With the support of Wofford and the vision they have created for this program, I am excited to create a strong tradition and culture of competitive lacrosse in Spartanburg.”

In 2016, Goucher went 8-8 overall and 2-4 in the Landmark Conference. Kat Carnevale and Jojo Franklin were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Region second team today, representing the Chesapeake Region. The honor for Miller's two players was the first All-Region nod for a Goucher player since 2013. Carnavale (First Team), Franklin (First Team), Jessica Borucki (Second Team) and Bridget Den Boer (Second Team) all earned spots on the 2016 All-Landmark team.

In 2015, Miller guided the Gophers to an 11-7 record for their first winning season since 2006. The team reached the semifinals of the conference tournament, the best finish since the 2004 season. Miller and assistant Kristen Bilney were named Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year, while Jojo Franklin was named conference Rookie of the Year.

Franklin was one of only two freshmen who were voted onto the All-Landmark first team, and was joined by teammate Kat Carnevale. The Gophers also landed two players on the All-Landmark second team, including Stefi Perry and Jessica Borucki.

Miller coached five All-Landmark Conference performers in 2014, including first-team standout Erin Reifsnyder. The squad battled through roster-size limitations and finished only one game out of the conference playoffs with a 7-9 overall record. The team was also successful academically, posting grade-point averages over 3.20 in each of Miller’s first three semesters in charge. The program was recognized by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for its work assisting with Parkville Adaptive Lacrosse, a local special needs program, and were recognized as an IWLCA Academic Honor Roll Squad in both seasons.

Prior to joining Goucher, Miller served as an assistant coach at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania from 2010-13. While with the Red Devils, she was involved with all aspects of the program, with a focus on the development and coordination of the defensive unit and goalkeepers. Miller coached seven all-conference and five all-region players during her time at Dickinson.

Miller was additionally responsible for the team’s weightlifting and conditioning programs, and she served as the team’s academic mentor. The Red Devils were recognized as an IWLCA Academic Honor Roll Squad in each of her three seasons, and the team also earned the 2011 IWLCA Community Service Award. Away from coaching, Miller served as a physical trainer and fitness instructor at the Harrisburg YMCA. She is a certified Spinning, TRX and PiYo instructor.

Prior to arriving at Dickinson, Miller spent one season as an assistant coach at Washington & Jefferson College. The Presidents improved from 8-7 to 12-3 under her tenure, earning an appearance in the ECAC championship game. The team’s defense ranked in the top 10 percent of Division III for scoring defense and caused turnovers, and the Presidents had three all-region performers.

Miller played lacrosse collegiately as a defender at both C.W. Post Long Island University and McDaniel College. She was at McDaniel from 2007-09, where the team earned Centennial Conference Tournament appearances in each season and was crowned ECAC champions in 2007. Miller was a two-year captain for the Green Terror, and she was named the team’s MVP in 2009.

After earning a B.A. in exercise science and physical education from McDaniel in 2008, Miller received her M.S. in the same discipline in 2009. She is an active member of the IWLCA, where she has served on the Academic Awards Committee since 2012. Miller has also been a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. In her free time, Miller is an avid runner. She has completed multiple marathons, including the NYC Marathon.
