Box Score ELON, N.C. -- Sophomore defender Erika Bishop scored the game winner with just under six minutes remaining in regulation to give visiting Wofford a 2-1 victory in Southern Conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Elon at Rudd Field in Elon, N.C.
With the two teams deadlocked at a goal apiece, Bishop headed home a corner kick from senior Rachel Hyatt at 84:14 to clinch the victory for the Terriers. The score came on her only shot of the game and is the first in her career for the Greenwood, S.C., native.
Senior Whitney Steelman had given Wofford (6-8-2, 2-4-1 SoCon) an early 1-0 lead on her fifth goal of the campaign at 3:47 when classmate Natalie Ferrara found her on a cross to the backside of the net behind the Phoenix defense and goalkeeper Lizz Johnson.
Elon (5-9-1, 3-4 SoCon) then received an equalizer from Katina Boozer on a corner kick, which was sent near the cage by Katie Persichini at 66:40.
The Phoenix held a slim 15-13 edge on shots and 6-4 advantage on corner kicks, but the Terriers' freshman goalkeeper Katie McChesney collected four saves to keep Elon off the board more often.
Wofford will continue its three-game road swing with a 4 p.m. Thursday matchup with Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga.
