SPARTANBURG, SC –Former Wofford College student-athletes Nathan Fuqua ’03, Mike Lenzly ’03 and Travis Wilson ‘03 have been selected by the Hall of Fame Committee of the Wofford College Terrier Club Board of Directors as the 2008 inductees into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
In addition, the Hall of Fame will honor Grover Eaker ‘34 as the Distinguished Service Award winner and Bill Drake as an Honorary Letterman.
The Hall of Fame will induct its newest class on August 30 when the Terriers host Presbyterian College in football.
The Hall of Fame recognizes “those former athletes and coaches who, by outstanding athletic achievements and service, have made lasting and significant contributions to the cause of sports at Wofford College, the Spartanburg community, South Carolina and the nation.”
Fuqua and Wilson were football standouts while Lenzly excelled in men’s basketball. Fuqua was a four-time All-Southern Conference honoree and earned All-America honors. Wilson holds school records for most total offensive yards in a season and is the only player in school history with more than 4,000 rushing and 2,000 passing yards. Lenzly was a three-time All-Southern Conference selection and is the only player with a triple-double.
Nathan Fuqua ‘03
Fuqua, a 2003 graduate of Wofford, was a four-year starter on the defensive line for head coach Mike Ayers. He was a four-time All-Southern Conference selection and earned first team All-America honors as a senior in 2002. Fuqua totaled 218 tackles in his career and ranks among Wofford’s all-time leaders in tackles for loss and sacks. The native of Danville, Kentucky, currently is an assistant coach at Wofford working with the outside linebackers.
Mike Lenzly ‘03
A three-year starter for coaches Mike Young and Richard Johnson, Lenzly was one of the premier point guards in the Southern Conference. He earned All-Southern Conference honors three times, including to the first team as a senior. Lenzly is the only player in school history to post a triple-double as he had 21 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds against Chattanooga in 2001. A native of Jonesboro, Georgia, he ended his Wofford career with 116 games played, 1333 points, 544 rebounds and 349 assists.
Travis Wilson ‘03
A four-year letterman and three-year starter at quarterback for the Terriers, Wilson is the only player in school history with more than 4,000 yards rushing and 2,000 yards passing. He holds school records for completion percentage in a game and season, along with the record for career passing yards. Wilson was the team leader in total offense all four seasons, led the team in rushing in 1999 and 2000 and was the team leader in passing for four seasons. His four touchdown passes in a game against Furman in 1998 tied a school record. From Newberry, S.C., he was named Wofford Most Valuable Player in 1999 and 2001.
Bill Drake, Honorary Letterman
Bill Drake has been the voice of the Terriers at football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball games for over 20 years. He hosts the popular “Awake With Drake” morning radio show on WOLT 103.3 FM, a program that has aired since Drake arrived in Spartanburg in 1976.
Grover Eaker ‘34, Distinguished Service Award
Grover Eaker was an early supporter of Wofford Athletics through the founding of the Eleven Club in 1946, the predecessor of the Terrier Club. He served as president of the Terrier Club six times and served as the annual campaign leader on numerous occasions. A man of character of principle, Eaker was the manager of Aug W. Smith in Spartanburg and later at Meyers Arnold. He also served in a wide variety of leadership roles in the Spartanburg community, including the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, United Way, YMCA and First Baptist Church. He was also the president of the Wofford College National Alumni Association.
