SPARTANBURG, SC – Wofford women’s soccer fell to Davidson 4-0 Friday night at Alumni Stadium in Davidson, North Carolina. The Wildcats scored three goals in the first half to pull away with the win.
The Terriers saw a three-game unbeaten streak come to an end and move to 3-11-1 overall and 2-4-1 in Southern Conference play. The Wildcats improve to 7-9-0 overall and 4-3-0 in Southern Conference.
The Wildcats had control early in the game with ten shots to Wofford’s two. Wofford’s Sydney Reed took a shot at 1:57 and Meredith Calcina shot at 23:28 that were both saved by Davidson’s Loring Ward. Two team saves by Wofford occurred at 9:46 and 17:42 when Davidson’s Amanda Flink and Stephanie Gerow both took headers. At 27:05 a headers by Davidson’s Blakely Low was saved by Wofford goalie Katie McChesney only to be rebounded back to Low to score the first goal for the Wildcats. Davidson’s Low would score again at 30:05 off of a throw in, shot from the far right corner of the box. Before the end of the first period the Wildcat’s third goal of the game, a free kick was made by Allison Drutchas.
At the start of the second period, Wofford’s Sydney Reed took another shot at 46:38 that was again saved by Loring Ward. Davidson would take 9 more shots and score the final goal on a cross from Kyri Bye-Nagel to Elizabeth Underwood at 78:43.
The Terriers nearly broke up the shutout in the 79th minute when it appeared they had scored in the six-yard box, but were whistle for offsides.
Wofford had eight saves to Davidson’s three, seven fouls to Davidson’s eight, and five corner kicks to Davidson’s seven. Wofford had one red card issued to the team bench and one yellow card.
The Terriers are back in action on Sunday against Georgia Southern at 2 pm in Statesboro, Georgia.
