CLINTON, S.C. – The Wofford women’s soccer team was defeated 1-0 by Presbyterian College on Thursday night at Martin Stadium. Despite outshooting the Blue Hose 11-7 in the game, the Terriers were unable to score.

Wofford is 1-6 on the season, while the Blue Hose move to 3-4. The lone goal in the game was scored by PC’s Morgan Fragapane.

In the first half, Presbyterian had the first shot of the night just 1:47 into the match. The Terriers had the next two chances, both of which were saved. Neither team had a shot on goal in the final 15 minutes of the first half.

Late in the second half, the Blue Hose broke the tie with a shot by Morgan Fragapane from 26 yards out that bounced off the crossbar and into the net. Alice Blackwell had the assist on the goal at the 78:11 mark. Wofford had the final three shots in the game, but two shots from Rachel Blackburn were wide and a chance by Nikki Siebert was saved. With just under 90 seconds to play Wofford thought they had scored the equalizer but for the linesman’s flag going up for offsides.

For the Terriers, goalie Erika Christensen allowed one goal and had two saves. Presbyterian College goalie Abby Young made three saves in the first half, while Sara Beth Anderson made three saves in the second half while facing eight shots. Wofford had a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks.

The Presbyterian game was the first of a stretch of four straight road games. Wofford will return to the field on Monday, September 21 when the Terriers travel to South Carolina State for a 7:00 pm contest. The next home game is October 2 against the College of Charleston.
