Wofford Women’s Soccer Adds Nine For 2010

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College women’s soccer coach Amy Kiah has announced that nine student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent or letters of commitment to join the Terriers in the fall of 2010.

The class includes a goalkeeper, defender, forward and six midfielders. Overall, the nine are from six different states, including two each from Georgia and South Carolina.

Maggie Bosley is a midfielder from Aiken, South Carolina. She has lettered the past three seasons at South Aiken High School and was named all-region each season. Also, Bosley earned team MVP each of the last three seasons. As a junior, she scored eight goals with seven assists to earn All-State honors, and the team won the AAA Lower State Championship with a 21-5 record. She added twelve goals with eight assists as a sophomore. She has been a member of the South Carolina ODP team from 2004-09 and plays club soccer with Columbia United. “Maggie is a very versatile player, playing both midfield and defense,” said Kiah. “As a midfielder, she has a tremendous work-rate, great vision, and playmaking ability.” She will also bring a lot of enthusiasm and personality to our team.” Maggie is also a member of the National Honor Society, the student body president of her high school, and a Wofford Scholar.

Emily Bougas is a forward from Grayson, Georgia. Emily has enjoyed a very successful club soccer career helping the Gwinnett Soccer Association Phoenix to five Georgia State cup championships in ’04, ’05, ’06, ’07, and ’09. In 2008, Emily was awarded the “Golden Boot” Award for her stellar goal-scoring proficiency and in 2009 helped the Phoenix to a Regional Championship. The Phoenix have consistently been a top team in the region and ended the 2009 season ranked sixth in the nation. Emily has also had much success with the Providence Christian Academy soccer team. With Emily’s 39 career goals and 10 assists, Providence Christian won a State Championship in 2007. “She has explosive speed and incredible goal-scoring ability,” said Kiah. “She will certainly add depth to our forward line and should help us with our offense in the future.” Along with her exceptional athletic ability, Emily is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club.

Kimberly Cohn is a goalkeeper from Clearwater, Florida. An integral member of the Clearwater Chargers Soccer Club, Kim defended the net during the club’s Florida State Championship in 2007. As a senior captain at Countryside High School, she posted twelve shutouts as the team had a 14-5 overall record. In 18 games played, Cohn had 101 saves and a 0.78 goals against average. A three-year letterman, she was team defensive MVP as a junior and also earned All-County honorable mention recognition. Cohn is a member of the Florida ODP team. “Kim is a great goalkeeper,” said Kiah. “She knows how to command the 18-yard box and has the ability to make big saves.”

Allison Gehron is a midfielder from Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences. As a senior, she scored 14 goals with twelve assists to earn District MVP and first-team All-State honors. During her junior season, she scored 17 goals with 14 assists to earn first-team All-State recognition. Allison was recognized as the district MVP after her senior year campaign, as well as placement on the All-State First Team. For her career, she scored 52 goals with 48 assists. Allison played select for East Ridge Soccer Club, helping them to win the Division III state championships in 2006-07. She is a member of the Paideia Honor Society and the Student Government Association. “I think Ally is going to bring a spark to our offense,” said Kiah. “She really knows how to create goals for herself and others.”

Lindsey Hughes is a midfielder from Marietta, Georgia. Lindsey has had a successful club soccer career at Tophat Soccer club in Atlanta, Georgia. Lindsey attends Mount Parin Christian School in Kennesaw, Georgia. At Mount Parin, she has lettered three seasons in soccer. She earned honorable mention All-County honors in 2009. Lindsey was also a member of the varsity basketball team at Mount Parin. She was awarded the Coaches Award in 2008. While playing for Tophat, her team was Super Y Division champions with a 10-0-1 record in 2008. “Lindsey is a great athlete,” said Kiah. “She can win balls in the air and will add a physical presence to our midfield.” Along with Lindsey’s athletic accomplishments, she has been a member of both the National Honors Society and Beta Club.

Bridget Hutter is a midfielder from Springboro, Ohio. Bridgett’s youth soccer career has been very impressive. She is a member of the Ohio South ODP team and was invited to the Region 2 ODP camp. Bridgett was also selected to the Super Y-league national camp. She has gained much experience at the club level as a year-round player for Cincinnati clubs Ohio Elite Soccer Academy, and currently, Classics Hammer FC. Bridgett played on the Springboro High School team her senior year, earning a place on the All-Conference team. “I am very happy that Bridget is coming to Wofford,” said Kiah. “She has tremendous ability in the middle of the field. She should battle for playing time as a freshman.” Bridget is one of many athletes in her family as her sister played soccer for Middle Tennessee State, and her Father, Kurt, is a former baseball player at Southeast Louisiana University.

Alex Kachulis is a midfielder from Weddington, North Carolina. Alex has been critical to the success of Charlotte United FC’s Gold team. As a central midfielder, Charlotte United reached six tournament finals in the last four years, including a North Carolina State Cup final in 2008. In 2006, Charlotte United gave Alex the honor of team MVP. As a member of the Weddington High School Varsity team, Alex was awarded the Coaches Award in 2008 and 2009, as well as earning a spot on the 2009 North Carolina All-Region West team. In 2007, the Weddington varsity team reached the North Carolina 4A Finals. “Alex is a very versatile midfielder,” said Kiah. “She has remarkable tackling ability on the defensive side, and can create offense with her passing ability. Her composure will greatly benefit our midfield.” Alex has also won a conference championship with the Weddington volleyball team.

Evie Kytan is a midfielder from Marietta, Georgia. Kytan has been a key member of the North Atlanta Soccer Association 10 Elite team. In 2007 and 2008, the NASA 10 girls were participants in the prestigious Region III Premier League. A four-year starting center midfielder, Evie helped her team reach the Georgia state finals in 2007 and the semi-finals in 2008. She also assisted in back to back state championships with The Walker School Varsity team in 2008 and 2009. Evie has played in the Super Y League for the Atlanta Silverbacks winning an Atlantic Division Championship and reaching the national semifinals in 2005. In 2007 and 2008, Evie established herself as an elite player in Georgia when she was selected to the Georgia State ODP team, as well as Super Y National Camp in 2006 and 2007. “Evie is a technically sound midfielder who possesses the ball very well,” said Kiah. “I think she will fit in great with our style of play. We are very happy to have her.” A Wendy’s High School Heisman nominee, Kytan is a member of the National Honor Society.

Megan Polson is a defender from Spartanburg, South Carolina. Megan moved to Spartanburg in 2008 after a successful stretch at Bridge FA in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., reaching the state semifinals in ’06 and ’07. Megan quickly became a key member of the Carolina Elite Soccer Association Premier girls’ team that won back-to-back state championships in ’08 and ’09. She also won two state championships for the Wando High School Varsity team in ’07 and ‘08, as well as being honored with the “Coaches Award” in 2008. After moving to Spartanburg, Megan helped Spartanburg High School reach the second round of the 4A state playoffs in 2009. Megan has been a member of the South Carolina ODP team for 5 consecutive years. “We are very excited to have Megan join us this fall,” said Kiah. “She has a knack for winning the ball and making great tackles. Megan is strong, she’s great in the air, and her game intelligence allows her to be very versatile for us.” Megan has also been active in the community as a member of the Wando High School Anchor Club.

The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to Wofford College and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
