SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced their postseason all-conference awards Thursday evening with Wofford's Julia Grier selected to the SoCon All-Freshman Team. The awards are voted on by the league's coaches, and they were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Grier, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, started all 20 games so far this season. Grier leads the team with four goals, three assists, and 11 points. She is fourth in the Southern Conference in minutes played (1,633), first in the Wofford freshman class, and third highest on the team. Grier is also the third-highest ranked freshman in the SoCon. This marks the best rookie season since 2018, when Katie Gilligan also recorded four goals, three assists and 11 points.
"Everyone in the program is so proud of Julia," head coach Kevin Dempsey said. "She is one of the hardest working kids, a great teammate and overall a great person. She busted her butt all summer playing at the highest level she could to prepare for the fall season. Julia hit the ground running and never looked back. The future is extremely bright for her."
Grier scored the first goal of the season for the Terriers on August 28, when Wofford beat Gardner-Webb 2-1. She continued to show her presence on the field as she recorded her first career assist to Kate Markey, last year's all-freshman team selection, in the Terriers' 3-1 win over Presbyterian College. Grier would proceed to score two goals in back-to-back games to cap off Wofford's non-conference schedule.
Grier serves as the tenth all-freshman selection in program history and the fourth in the past five years. The Terriers currently have three all-freshman team selections on the roster: Grier (2025), Markey (2024), and Ansley Elizalde (2022).
The Terriers will battle for a semifinal spot in the Southern Conference tournament on Friday afternoon as they take on the No. 1 seed Samford at 4 p.m. CT (5 p.m. ET) in Birmingham, Alabama.
