SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Wofford College women's soccer team defeated South Carolina State, 3-0, after a late first half goal from Bella Drummond and a commanding second half at Snyder Field on Sunday afternoon.
First Half
The first half began with the Terriers taking over possession and having six shots on goal in the first 30 minutes.
Freshman Bella Drummond found her mark with under three minutes left in the half at 42:18, tapping it in off a pass from Annie Andrews.
South Carolina State struggled to find possession or scoring opportunities, with only one shot in the first half, ending the first half with the Terriers leading 1-0.
Second Half
Feeling success from the first half, Wofford continued to find opportunities by the net with four shots in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
With the consistent offensive pressure, Annie Andrews got her second goal of the season at 56:53, with an assist from Brooke Moody.
The Terriers continued to hold up the backline, not allowing any shots from the Bulldogs to get through, with SCSU recording zero shots in the second half.
"We work so hard in practice, and it feels so good to see exactly what we do in practice being executed," said goaltender Elizabeth Navola. "The backline was so solid; midfield was so solid; the whole team was solid."
With the clock counting down into the final ten minutes, Wofford did not let up the offensive pressure, with Maya Lake running up and hammering a final goal home at 83:31, ending at the final whistle, 3-0.
"We love our freshman, but the upperclassman showed so much maturity," said head coach Kevin Dempsey. "That was my message before the game - we need to have a mature and professional performance." Dempsey added that the team was "just real pleased for a shutout as well, with Nav in the backline. We are working and keep getting better there and had an overall good performance."
