SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The women’s soccer team defeated Alabama State University by a score of 6-0, giving them their first win of the season. The decisive victory brings the Terriers to 1-1 on the season.
Close to halfway through the first half the freshman
Emily Bougas started the show with a chip-in goal from an assist by
Anne Phillips. This was Bougas’s first goal on the season and her first point as a Terrier. Soon after in the 26th minute,
Nikki Siebert was able to fire a shot in to give the Terriers a two goal advantage. Siebert was able to score off an assist from Bougas.
In the second half, the team was able to light up the scoreboard and statbook as four more goals were put into the net. Bougas knocked in her second goal of the game from an assist by Siebert. Siebert was able to match her teammate as she streamed in her second goal of the game off an assist from
Lauren Cozzarelli. Siebert stayed busy, as she assisted freshman
Alex Kachulis on her first goal of the game and the first points of her career. The final goal of the afternoon was slipped in by
Ellen Ezekiel. Her score accounts for the sophomore’s first goal of her career.
Today’s performance goes into the record books as one of the highest scored contests in Terrier history. At the end of the game Siebert accounted for two goals and two assists, giving her eight total goals in her career. Bougas tallied two goals and one assist, and
Katie McChesney was credited with a shutout. The shutout marks for McChesney’s 11th of her tenure at Wofford.
The Terriers look to continue their success against Presbyterian College this Friday, August 27th, at 7:00 PM. The match will be the team’s first competition at home this season.
