Women’s Soccer Puts Up 33 Shots In Win Over Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The women’s soccer team posted their third win of the season with a victory over USC Upstate Sunday afternoon. The match was dominated by the Terriers offensively, having 33 total shots, which ranks 4th all-time in a match. The final at the end of regulation was 1-0, giving Wofford a 3-2 record on the year. USC Upstate slips to 0-5 on the season.

Nikki Siebert was a pivotal performer in the match. She accounted for the Terriers lone goal and tallied a team high seven shots, with two being on frame. Siebert’s score came in the 65th minute off a cross from Lauren Cozzarelli. Cozzarelli caught a pass on the run from Maggie Bosley, and beat her opposing defender to the right wing corner. The senior midfielder placed a well driven ball toward the near post and it deflected off a Spartan defender, landing in the feet of Siebert. Siebert skied the ball over the fingertips of the goalkeeper and scored the game winner for the Terriers.

The women’s soccer team had an astounding 13 different players with shots, with 9 having shots on target. Siebert led with seven shots, having two on frame. The squad enters the record book at the number four spot with 33 total shots.

Sydney Reed had six attempts, Daniella Fatti, Coazzarelli and Emily Bougas each had three apiece. Megan Wellborn, Amanda Morris and Rachael Blackburn each had two shots toward the Spartan net. Alex Kachulis, Anne Phillips, Maggie Bosley, Maggie McLaughlin and Chelsea Ashworth each had a single attempt in the shot category.

Goalkeeper Erika Christensen accounted for the start today and earned the second shutout of her career.

The Terriers travel to Asheville, N.C. next Sunday, Sept. 12 to face UNC Asheville. The match will be held at 1:00 pm.
