Terriers Claim 3-0 Win Over USC Upstate Friday Evening

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women’s soccer team took an early lead and did not look back as the Terriers defeated USC Upstate by a 3-0 score Friday evening.

Wofford (2-0) contolled play throughout the match, outshooting USC Upstate (0-2) by a margin of 12-5, as well as leading the corner kick margin by a 7-1 advantage.

Emily Bougas scored the opening goal of the match in the 19th minute as she sent a shot from the right side of the box past Upstate keeper Rachel Collins. Anne Phillips was credited with the assist.

The Terriers struck again in the 25th minute as Chelsea Ashworth scored from the left side of the box following a lob pass by Bougas from 15 yards out.

In the 85th minute of action, Sydney Reed scored the final goal of the night, putting a shot into the lower left corner of the net following a pass from Maggie Bosley.

Erika Christensen played all 90 minutes in goal for the Terriers, shutting out the Spartan offense, earning two saves.

The Terriers will return to action on Thursday, September 1st, as they travel to Clinton, S.C. to face Presbyterian College. The match is set for a start time of 7:00 pm.
