Box Score Box Score (PDF)

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Three first half goals proved too much as the Wofford women’s soccer team was defeated by Appalachian State 3-0 Friday night at Snyder Field.  The Terriers fall to 6-7-1 and 1-5-1 in conference play, while the Mountaineers improve to 8-5-1 and 5-1-1 in the SoCon.

Appalachian State opened the scoring in the 6th minute when Leah Drawdy assisted on Julia Holz sixth goal of the season.  Drawdy crossed the ball into the middle of the 18 yard box where Holz was waiting to poke the ball past Wofford goalkeeper, Kimberly Cohn.  The Mountaineers would double their lead five minutes later when Sam Neill sent a free kick into the box that was headed past Cohn by Sam McVeigh.  Appalachian State would add a third first half goal in the 37th minute of a 25 yard shot by Taylor Dunlap.  Dunlap fired a shot that bent into the top right corner of the net past Cohn’s outstretched hands.  At the break, the Mountaineers lead 3-0 and held the edge in shots (5-3) and corners taken (3-0).

Appalachian State changed goalkeepers to start the second half with Amy Kolowsky replacing Megan Roberson.  Neither team would find the back of the net in the second half and the game would end 3-0 in favor of the Mountaineers.  Wofford held the edge in shots (2-1) while Appalachian State took one more corner (3-2).

Kimberly Cohn gets the loss for Wofford and falls to 0-3-1 for the season.  She recorded two saves on six shots faced.  Megan Roberson gets the win for Appalachian State and improves to 7-2-1 this year.  Neither Mountaineer goalie made a save on five shots faced.

Wofford returns to the pitch on October 14 to host the Catamounts of Western Carolina.  The match is set to kick-off at 2:00 p.m.
